Saying No

Friday, November 20, 2009

We all look for the big successess, like five pounds lost or meeting exercise goals for the month, but the small victories can be just as important. Sometimes you may not be doing everything right but saying no to something that is bad for you can be a victory worth celebrating.

Today my whole office went to see The Blindside in theaters. I knew about this ahead of time so I didn't eat breakfast so I could get some popcorn and not go over my calories. When we got back my boss ordered pizza and I went and got a salad. We all sat down to eat and she asked if I wanted a slice of pizza. It looked so good but I said no. I am so proud that I was able to say no and eat my salad while enjoying the company of my co-workers. I am celebrating this small victory by thinking about all of the calories I saved by saying no and imagining myself just a tiny bit thinner for it.

These small victories count, in fact, they can add up fast. Everytime you say and no and make a smart choice, salad instead of pizza or a piece of fruit instead of a cookie, you are that much closer to your goal. Imagine all of the calories you would save if you treated each small victory as a big accomplishment. Each small victory, each time you celebrate by being proud of yourself and feeling good in your accomplishment, makes it easier to say no the next time. And the next time. And the time after that. Before you know it, you have saved yourself thousands of calories, become healthier, lost weight, and feel very good about yourself. So celebrate the small victories with me and lets keep up the momentum.

TX: emoticon You are absolutely right!! I just had a similar experience tonight - I made cookies for my DH and for literally the first time in 5 years on the "beach" I thought seriously about scarfing down a few of them .... however, I did NOT DO IT. Instead I went upstairs and did 42 minutes on my stationary bike at level 14 ......Yay!

All the best on your journey!
