#157: How Do You Make Others Feel?
Thursday, December 03, 2009
An email brought me these words of wisdom:
"People MAY forget what you said to them."
"People MAY forget what you did to them."
"But, people will NEVER forget how you made them feel."
When we talk to people, do we leave them feeling better about themselves? Whether a personal visit, a phone call, an email, a SparkMail or a reply to a SP member's post or blog. Do we offer encouragement and support? Are we caring? Are we appreciative?
Don't you feel on top of the world when someone pays you a compliment?
Shouldn't this be how we aim to make others with whom we interact feel every day?
A simple, "What a handsome little boy you have," or "What a pretty girl that is," or "I appreciate the work you do," or "I've enjoyed talking with you," or maybe, simply, "Thank you," or "I hope you have a great day," goes a long way toward making another's day brighter.
It doesn't take much to make others feel better about themselves and to maybe help them escape their troubles for a few moments.
Let's try to pay at least one compliment to someone in every place we go -- a restaurant, a grocery store, our child's day care, the car mechanic, the dry cleaner....
Just one compliment to someone at every place we visit. Not so hard, is it?
For me, I'll wish you the most successful day you have ever had. May your day be filled with happiness and smiles...and compliments.
