A Driving Force...

I realized today that I mindlessly eat while driving. My dd and I spent 6 hours in the car today driving to and from a cheer competition - and I ate...a lot. You'd think with all the singing I did into the steering wheel that my mouth would have been too busy to eat LOL!! Good thing our long drives aren't very frequent.

The girls did wonderfully, but didn't place well. Which...is OK. They did great and they smiled as they received their participation medals. That's what it's all about - gaining confidence, a sense of accomplishment, and fun!!

Back on track tomorrow!

    If you pack the right foods (fresh veggies, dip, cheese, pepperoni, almonds) eating in the car on long trips can save you time from stopping at gas stations for food (you can just get gas and go!) but when time is of the essence, sometimes we let those priorities slip!
    You will recover from this day trip! You are right, it's a good thing they are few and far betweeen!

    PS... I'm happy to hear that your daughter performed well at her competition! It feels good to know you gave it your all! She should be so proud of herself. I bet she can't wait for the next one!!!

    Hmmmm...never thought about eating while driving. I just never do it. I don't get popcorn at movies either. LOL. I can see how it would be easy to rack up a few extra calories that way.
    It's good that you recognized you were even doing it! Now you can fix the problem. :)

    At least you recognize your behavior and now you can take some steps to make it healthier - more water, healthy car snacks, etc.

    I never bring food in the car for that reason. My parents always had food in the car on trips, but Jake and I don't because when we do it talks to us. I would rather stop and get the one semi-healthy thing at the gas station, or whatever, than eat the whole way. Another idea, if you must have things for the kids is to keep it all in the trunk and stop at designated intervals (or if a kid is starving or something, make an exception) but that way you can't graze.

    My eating problems usually occur away from home. LOL.

    The girls learned a valuable lesson about grace. They will always be winners because they did their best and enjoyed themselves. They sound like a wonderful group of young women that will be the brightest part of our future.

    I do that too. Mindless eating in the car. We commute about 40 mn to and 40 mn from work each day. I pack my coffee and breakfast to eat on the way and drink lots of water before leaving work at the end of the day........unfortunately I'm racing to the potty when we get home, but I avoid the late afternoon/pre-dinner treats that way. Otherwise I'd be munching on vending machine garbage. Ugh!

    Glad the girls did well, even though they didn't place. emoticon

    Veggies are the best! I have eaten and drank millions of calories in the car. Now it is primarily veggies and water with some chicken strips for protein.

    I munch on long trips too... helps to keep me awake! LOL Low carb options are definitely good... veggies would be great. I like the ~CRUNCH~ in my mouth!!

    I consider it a real break-through to discover what your overeating triggers are. For me it was procrastination. So obvious I didn't even notice at first! Now I pop gum in my mouth as a pre-emptive attack on the procrastination munchies.

    I love when people are honest about their struggles! That's real llife!! The best thing about spark is doing what you are doing...getting right back on track! I know that is the key to success!

    I did take lower carbs snacks, but veggies would have been a much better alternative!! You're awesome at simple solutions LOL!!
