#180 -- Post Holiday Letdown or New Opportunity?
Saturday, December 26, 2009
The hype and commercialism is over. So is the official Christmas. Now the post holiday letdown sets in for many people.
But not for others. Why is that?
Why are some people filled with an apparent abundance of goodwill toward others throughout the year while some people resume their natural state grumpiness?
Is it that difficult to be happy? Or to be nice to people all of the time? Remember the feeling of wanting to reach out in greeting to so many friends and acquaintances in the days leading up to Christmas?
Why not continue that into the new year?
Write thank you notes during the year for positive service to those who serve you -- the cleaners, trash collectors, grocery store employees, gas station attendants, friends, family...
You get the idea.
A letter of praise for a job well done to a supervisor means more to the receiving employee than you might realize. It needn't be long or elaborate. Simply a thank you for a pleasant demeanor or a helpful attitude. Especially if someone has gone out their way for you.
You would appreciate receiving such a nice card or letter, wouldn't you?
Well, so will others.
Be the first to smile at someone. Hold a door open for the person behind you. Say thank you to everyone who helps you. Write the cards and letters.
You'll carry the spirit of Christmas with you and spread joy to your universe of contacts. Cast your bread of thankfulness on the waters of friendship.
Isn't it worth a try?
