I must rewind to last Christmas. My spouse and I really have not exchanged gifts every year since we have been married. Some years we have been tight for money. Other years we have been thoughtful. Last year he thought he would be funny. He made a huge deal out of my gift, and then when I opened it, it was an oil change. Yup, oil and an oil filter. That actually hurt my feelings. He is a master technician and I felt it would be like me giving him a Gift Certificate for childcare for his children...
Over the past year I have transformed from an obese woman. To a healthy, almost overweight, woman. Losing 40 pounds and gaining a healthy lifestyle. So my husband has watched. He was proud when I finished the biggest loser challenge. He was proud when I signed up to do a triathlon. He told everyone. He was proud when I virtually swam the English Channel. Every night he would ask me how far I had swam and how much further until I was finished....
A couple of weeks ago he asked me how much I weighed. I told him, "199". Better than 238, huh?" Even though I am on the road to good health, still ashamed of how bad I had gotten.
I was standing in the Dining room last Monday. He gives me a quick hug and tells me how proud he is of me. "Honey, you don't even know how proud I am of you. And you probably never will..." I cried. He was so sincere. And Dana is not one to lay out the compliments.
This year, Dana went out and bought my Christmas present on his own. No help from my kids. No shopping with his buddies. On Christmas morning, I opened my gift. He bought me snow shoes. Funny thing is, I have been scouring craigs list for a pair. He asked my weight, because that is important in buying them. He researched online about snow shoes. He went to Dicks Sporting Goods and bought me a pair. All on his own. He has realized that working out is a part of my life and he bought a gift that he knew I would like.
So I have been out twice with them. I love them! On Christmas Day I went for a walk with my Dog Joey.
I brought my cross country poles with me. I found that with packed snow on rolling hills, I did not need poles. It is a great work out. Spark people showed that I burn 700 calories an hour.
I went to the town land the next day. No poles. Pooch with me. We hiked for an hour. It was awesome. I loved the hike. So did my dog. At the end of the hike my naughty boy jumped in the water. He was so full of joy. So happy that I had chosen to do a work out with him. And I loved the hike, it is one of my favorite places to go. Hmmm, if you read my blogs, you might recognize the scenery.
Joey safe from hunters wearing his orange vest!
Joey doing the army crawl. He just heard someone discharge ammo from their black powder rifles.
Naughty boy in the water!
Now we have to walk the red dot trail as it is getting dark in hopes that he will dry out a little because I do not have a towel on me and it is
going to be a wet smelly ride home for sure!
On the ride home he put his head on my elbow and looked up at me with those beautiful amber eyes. "Thank you for spending time with me!" written all over his face. labbies are so cute.
Hoping to go out again tomorrow. Saturday snow!!!! totally excited about going out during a snow storm!
