#189: I Won't Give In To A Cold
Monday, January 04, 2010
Excuses for overeating and not exercising are plentiful. But having a cold will not be one of mine.
Please believe me when I say I sympathize with all of you suffering through winter's freezing temperatures. But here in Central FL it has been in the 30s for the lows the past few days. When that happens, restaurants and businesses set their building's thermostats at 85. That's how it was in the lobby of the doctor's office today while the inner waiting room was like a meat locker.
It's no wonder a cold bug finally caught up with me. It's been years since I've had headaches, chills, hot flashes, queasy stomach, coughing, sneezing and the overall blah feeling.
But I won't give in to a cold. It won't beat me!
Today the doctor started me on a medicine called Byetta to stabilize blood sugars that some have asked about. This also contributes to weight loss. She also took me off another medication that she said contributes to weight gain.
Since my first dose of this new medication was this afternoon, I took the opportunity of a new beginning to have chicken noodle soup and a salad for dinner that brought me 171 calories under my daily maximum and forced myself to do 18 minutes on the treadmill (I aimed for 20 but the legs turned to jelly) that burned another 140 calories. All in all a good new beginning, physically and mentally.
No, a lousy cold won't keep me from the progress I know I will now be making. I am determined to stay on this new path to weight loss.
A cold? Bah, humbug. Down but not out.
