Taking a Rest Day...

Ok...my lower body is extremely sore. It was extremely sore yesterday, after doing Thursday night's bootcamp. And then I went to Friday night's bootcamp, thinking it wouldn't be so bad, as it was boxing drills. We started off with a warmup of running laps around the track, wearing out bag/boxing gloves and were called out every now and then to do mitt work off to the side of the track. After 15 minutes of this, it was downstairs to the boxing room. Half the class did the boxing drills while the other half did exercises in the aerobics studio, and then we all switched.
I was already so sore in the knees, thighs, and glutes from the previous night's bootcamp, that tears were coming to my eyes as I did even more squats and lunges and jacknives and jumping jacks and pushups. I was having flashbacks of years ago when I was in Army Basic Training and remembering the pain of training....just when you think you can't do any more, somehow, somwhere, you find the strength and willingness to forge ahead. It is in doing what you didn't think you could do where character and discipline are born from.
So, have I overdone things this week? Probably so. Am I paying the price for it today by being in so much darn pain? Absolutely. Do have any regrets? Aboslutely Not! I have put forth more than my best effort, more than I have done doing my own workouts, and I have survived a week of fitness bootcamp in which I am the second heaviest person in the class. Tomorrow was going to be my rest day, but due to all this pain, I'm thinking today will be the day I let my body recuperate and instead, I will workout tomorrow. I might go for a short hike in the woods later just to stretch out my oh so very sore buttocks, or maybe play a little tennis with a friend of mine. But compared to the grueling workouts of this week, a short hike or a friendly game of tennis will be child's play and a great way to stretch out a bit of the soreness. But absolutely NO squats today!!!!
