#202: What Makes A Peaceful Afternoon?

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Today started as any other Sunday. But this afternoon has turned into one of those isolated days where I have felt totally at peace with the world.

Sure, there are still problems to face, but nothing that can't be put off for today.

I cooked some things I had defrosted, did laundry, ironing, washed dishes and other mundane chores, all with oldies music playing in the background. For you youngsters, that's music that dates to the 1950s and 1960s. Yes, there really was music back then. emoticon

The dogs got brushed and combed and some house cleaning done while a warm Central FL breeze blew through the open windows.

All in all an afternoon that relaxed my stress and made me feel that I had experienced one of the few near perfect afternoons in our lives. Sure, it could have been better with a close friend in town, or family members back who have passed on, but life is what it is and we need to accept these random moments of bliss that cross our paths.

Maybe to others, such a day as I've had so far will be considered boring. But we all need to relax and de-stress from time to time. We need to forget our life's difficulties and focus on enjoying momentary happiness that presents itself.

In a while is dinner with a friend of the family then more tidying and another load of laundry. Might sound boring, but for me, today, it is becoming one with the essence of the universe.

I hope that you also have such peaceful days and embrace them for what they truly are -- precious gifts of serenity.

I am so glad you had such a day, Lou. Yes, I too had a wonderful and relaxing day yesterday...I am at ds's for a few days and that always wears me out. I hope we both have more of these days!

Your day sounded a lot like mine, but I didn't have warm breezes to blow into the windows. It was cold and rainy outside so I got lots done inside! It is nice to feel like we had a perfectly productive and fulfilling day.

January through me a curve ball . First my 41 year old daughter ask me if she could move in for a few months . From the point I said yes to now has been one challenge after another. Then the call last week that my 66 year old brother past away from that point on I have ate most my meals on run picking relatives up from the airport and taking them back and forth. I have not got in bed before midnight all week- more like 2-4pm then up and going. Today the last of our out of state family went home so I am looking forward to some of those relaxing days like you had today. Wishing you more relaxing days!
    Hugs, Joy

I like the once or twice year I just stay in my PJ's and don't get dressed and just lounge around and do nothing!

Glad you had a good relaxing day. We all need them for sure.

Like you...I love days like these.

Sunday is one of our busiest days with a 1 hour drive to church then grocery shopping after and a drive home. A typical Sunday starts at 8:30 in the morning and we get home around 3:30. So a slow laundry and tidy day sounds like heaven to me!

Glad you had a nice relaxing day.
