#202: What Makes A Peaceful Afternoon?
Sunday, January 17, 2010
Today started as any other Sunday. But this afternoon has turned into one of those isolated days where I have felt totally at peace with the world.
Sure, there are still problems to face, but nothing that can't be put off for today.
I cooked some things I had defrosted, did laundry, ironing, washed dishes and other mundane chores, all with oldies music playing in the background. For you youngsters, that's music that dates to the 1950s and 1960s. Yes, there really was music back then.
The dogs got brushed and combed and some house cleaning done while a warm Central FL breeze blew through the open windows.
All in all an afternoon that relaxed my stress and made me feel that I had experienced one of the few near perfect afternoons in our lives. Sure, it could have been better with a close friend in town, or family members back who have passed on, but life is what it is and we need to accept these random moments of bliss that cross our paths.
Maybe to others, such a day as I've had so far will be considered boring. But we all need to relax and de-stress from time to time. We need to forget our life's difficulties and focus on enjoying momentary happiness that presents itself.
In a while is dinner with a friend of the family then more tidying and another load of laundry. Might sound boring, but for me, today, it is becoming one with the essence of the universe.
I hope that you also have such peaceful days and embrace them for what they truly are -- precious gifts of serenity.
