#205: A Test of Faith and Positive Attitude

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

As if prophetically, last night's blog began: "I'm a pretty positive person. Even in the midst of stressful situations I try to find the good in what is going on around me."

This afternoon that way of thinking was put to a test.

I had an appointment at a business and was about three-quarters of a mile away when my car broke down. First time in six years. Gave thanks it happened on a side road and not on a busy street or expressway and for the cardio I'd receive by walking to the appointment and back to the car.

Then called roadside assistance and gave thanks I had a charged cell phone and a tow service plan.

The sun was hot but not unbearable while waiting for the tow truck. Gave thanks it wasn't summer's high humidity or the recent cold spell in the 30s and for a cooling breeze that occasionally blew through the car's open windows.

Realized I didn't have a credit card with me to pay for the excess towing miles. Gave thanks that a friend who was to pick me up at the mechanic's said he'd pay for it.

Called the mechanic to say I'd leave the keys in the drop box since he'd be closed when we got there. Gave thanks he stayed open until we arrived and that he'll be able to start the repairs first thing in the morning. Gave additional thanks that the breakdown happened today and not tomorrow because the shop is closed on Fridays.

My ride wanted to stop for dinner and treated me. Gave thanks for friendship and a nice meal.

Didn't make the rest of my appointments. Gave thanks they will let me have time tomorrow afternoon.

Certainly a day that tested my faith and positive attitude. But a day I realized there truly can be good in stressful situations if we only look for it.

    You are emoticon Lou! That is the attitude I am trying to cultivate. I am trying to look at things in a different light and be thankful for all things because everything gives us an opportunity to exercise the fruits of the spirit and when we do we are laying up treasures in Heaven. You laid up some Treasures this day!

    There is always much to be thankful for! And I know, when we are going through rough times, we usually do NOT see the purpose in it. But, you just gave a great example of giving thanks in all things!

    Blessings to you;
