Goals & Rewards: My Personal Manifesto
Friday, January 22, 2010
I've finished reading THE SPARK, and realized although I have my Beck cards, I have never written down my short-, medium-, or long-term goals. They are in my head, but as we ALL KNOW, WE NEED TO WRITE THINGS DOWN.
So I've done quite a bit of thinking about this, and here's my public declaration.
My Daily Goal:
WARRVESTS continues to work for me. I track these 9 things daily on a calendar I keep. The letters stand for Water, Alcohol use, Read my cards, Record everything I eat, Vitamins (daily!), Exercise, Slow down when eating, Table (eat dinner at), and Snack sensibly. For the past week I've scored at least 7 out of 9 each day. Weirdly enough the two I tend to skip are read the cards and take the vitamins.
Reward: For completing these mini-goals on a daily basis, my reward is the satisfaction of marking them off on my calendar. And trust me, I DO consider that VERY satisfying.
Monthly (medium) Goal:
My monthly goal is to lose 5 pounds per month. I've decided to treat this as a business deal. If I complete the job on time and under budget I'm going to reward myself. In other words, if I lose MORE than the 5 pounds at the end of the month I'm going to put $20/pound in a separate "reward" fund for myself.
Reward for meeting the 5 pound monthly goal: A manicure, pedicure, or fun outfit.
Long term goal:
Weigh 145 OR LESS by cruise day, May 19.
Reward: get a spray-on tan, or my hair streaked. (those girly things I'm usually WAY too practical to bother with!) Post my AFTER-PHOTO on Sparkpeople! Get a new bathing suit (but you won't see me in that on Sparkpeople!)
This weekend I will work on my vision collage.
I have to tell you that for some reason everything seems to have finally "clicked." I feel exceptionally motivated -- like I've found a roadmap that will absolutely get me where I want to go, as long as I follow it.
