"They" were right all along!!!

Saturday, January 23, 2010

All my life I've heard that if you don't take care of yourself, you're no good to anyone else. Thought this was rubbish! I was a good mother, good wife, so what if I was overweight and tired...I was taking care of everyone around me, and if I must say so myself, I thought I was doing a pretty good job.

Well, I'm older and wiser now, a member of SP, and finally have realized that "they" were right all along! I think I often played the martyr when I was younger, expecting everyone to applaud my ability to put everyone else first. Riding to my son's swim meets, cheering for my daughter in a theater production, working full-time while trying to keep a lot of balls in the air at the same time...wow, it was tiring, especially since I was carrying at least 50 extra pounds around with me every day. Don't get me wrong, I loved my life, but I was SO TIRED a lot of the time!

My children are now grown and my husband has retired, and I'm in my last 3 years of teaching...and I finally get it...I'VE GOT TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF! Not for anyone else, but for me...so that I can live longer, feel better, and truly enjoy every wonderful day. And you know what, I don't feel guilty about that anymore!

That deserves a BIG AMEN! I've begun to act on that notion lately -- when I do take care of myself first, I find those around me are happier, too. It rolls down hill. I'm so glad you're taking the bull by the horns, Diane. I want a happy & healthy you around for a long, long time!

Well, soon I will be able to do the same but right now taking care of Mom and a brother gets in the way a little bit ... but I do diet now and eat right..so that is a start... I love your attitude Diane... You are a great example to all of us... Hugs, Dotty

You have a great attitude, and are really on track. It took me years to realize that I needed to start be more healthy. I was a teacher also. I think we were too busy to think of us.

Love, love, love this! Hooray for you and your great attitude. I have often wondered who "they" are, but I too have found them to be a pretty smart group. And "they" sure seem to know a lot about everything...

Fantastic! I'm so glad you have reached that point. And it's a really good message for us younger ones still stuck in that "all others before me" stage. Thank you!!!

You get the "ATTA GIRL" - the lightbulb is on and the suffering (all done with love) is over. It is now time to be ALL ABOUT YOU - make the remaining pages of your story everything you want them to be!!!

Good for you. As a teacher I'm sure you know that some people learn at a different rate. You finally got it
