#211: A Grand Design?
Tuesday, January 26, 2010
I've been watching my two dogs and three cats today and marveling that they, like people, even though they have their own personalities, are identical for the most part inside.
If we could see inside us we'd see the organs are in the same place and serve the same function. The same with animals. Sure, there is an occasional difference, such as with Siamese twins, but otherwise, people are mirror images of each other inside.
It is this similarity that has me marveling over the grand design that has made all of the human, animal, insect, plant, fish and reptile populations the same. One shark will have the same organs as another. A rose will have the same parts as another rose, bumblebees will be alike, ants will be alike, every living, growing thing will have similar functions.
This can't have happened by mistake or coincidence, can it?
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, predictable and unchanging. Rains and snow flow downward, not upward one day and downward the next. Our lives are a continuing pattern of similar direction and purpose.
Isn't this nearly beyond comprehension?
This is what I have thought about today as I watched my pets. A dog is a dog, a cat is a cat, a person is a person. Yes, personalities will be different but otherwise every class of living thing is alike.
Isn't that fascinating?
