Plan B: January 29, 2010

Friday, January 29, 2010

This has been a challenging day for me.

My officemate has retired and this was her last day at work. We threw a party for her this morning in the office -- there were plenty of sweet treats and a fruit platter. Shortly afterwards, we took her out for a Mexican Fiesta for lunch. There were margaritas, chips and salsa, lots of food, and more sweet treats.

The first part was a success for me. I didn't eat any sweets at the office party. I drank some coffee and ate a few pieces of fruit. I spent my time socializing with coworkers and re-stocking the fruit platter.

The second part was not so successful. I did eat chips and salsa. Usually, chips are my downfall. Today, I ate about 10 of them. I'm amazed that I was able to stop. Seriously! I declined the margaritas, but did drink two light beers. I ate two beef tacos, some spanish rice and about a tablespoon of refried beans. I passed on the deserts.

The damage wasn't as bad as I anticipated; I have 236 calories remaining for the day.

So, my Plan B is:

* Continue drinking water
* Keep on walking (get my 10,000 steps for the day)
* Subway for dinner (six-inch veggie delight (no cheese))

It is in writing. That is my plan and I'm sticking with it!

    Nice! I think you did great! We still have to enjoy social situations, and like it or not they are always going to involve food. You did a splendid job in the morning and an equally good job at lunch! It does not sound to me like you overindulged to any great degree. But the best part is that you didn't throw in the towel even though lunch threw you off track! It's SO EASY to just say, "Well, today's a wash," and then full-fledged pig out. But you didn't! You balanced it out. That's REAL living. emoticon

    I'm so proud of you!

    Later you'll have to tell me who exactly retired!

    Excellent! I think the chips would have completely done me in, especially if there had been cheese!

    Congrats on making it through and having a back-up plan.

    Thank goodness for Subway. Dont be too hard on yourself. Our rolls in life are to be happy and healthy people, not some medieval sort of aesetic that puinshes themselves.

    You were 90% succesful which gives you a goal for your next outing. Good work and keep it up.

    The thing I dislke about all of this is the difficulties of 'joining in' on these social occasions. Sounds like you did pretty well to me though. AND you've got your Plan B. This certainly a lesson to me and I hope to practise it too. Thank you
