#214: A Weight Loss Journey of Three
Friday, January 29, 2010
A young boy asked a lumberjack which stroke of the ax was the most important one that felled the large tree.
"All of them," the wise woodsman replied. "Without the first strike, the last one would not be possible.
Exactly like our journeys of weight loss, isn't it? How can we say which healthy meal allowed us to meet our goal? Or which exercise?
We can't. For without the first step, the first healthy meal, the first exercise, the last ones would not be as effective.
But what is true is that without the decision to take that first step, eat that first healthy meal, undergo that first exercise, without all of that, nothing else will occur. Our lives will remain unchanged.
Just as the mighty lumberjack needs to decide which tree to work on, we each need to decide what we need to work on. For some of us it's eating and exercise, for others perhaps adding weightlifting and cardio. But what is in common is that we must take the first step.
Our weight loss journey begins with the first step we take. We will hit detours and roadblocks but we must overcome, adapt and, if necessary, change tactics in order to be successful.
But we can do it. Just think: three healthy meals a day for just more than 333 days and add in three strong workout sessions a week and in less than a year we will be able to see dramatic changes in our bodies and in our minds.
By adopting this rule of three, we will become stronger, more knowledgeable and mentally tougher. And we will change, for the better.
Three meals a day, three workouts a week, for 333 days -- can we commit to this, one meal, one exercise, one positive day at a time?
