2/4/10 - The Girl in the Picture

The Girl in the Picture…….

In three days I run my first half marathon….I’m not scared; I have put my training in (thank you Mike – KAYAKID)….I’m just truly amazed that I’m doing it…it is a culmination of a 1-1/2 year journey that has proved to be something beyond my wildest imagination…….you see, I had finally stopped imagining that I could actually see a picture of myself and not want to cry…..where the image in the picture wasn’t somebody I didn’t recognize.

We took a family portrait for the first time this Thanksgiving and I finally recognized the girl in the picture……now I’m running a half marathon and I love to run! As many of you have heard before “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey” well this journey has only just begun…and I’m 1-1/2 years into it!! I have already reached several destinations along the way, but there are so many more to explore: A full Marathon, my last 10 lbs, achievements at work, getting stronger through strength training, improve my running times, hiking with my kids, running in the cold and rain (thank you Mike ;-) emoticon, travel…….. Amazing what confidence does for you…….I now feel like I have the power to accomplish anything….it doesn’t mean that it’s easy. I still struggle with my eating, the aches and pains; the motivation to get up at 4:30am to workout everyday….but it has given me the strength and confidence to keep conquering the weight demons that have haunted me since childhood….and most of all NOT GIVE UP!!!

So I’m off to run a half marathon in Huntington Beach, CA on Super Bowl Sunday – Yep….13.1 miles….. luck would have it it’s supposed to rain….I think the rain just follows me now that I live in the rainiest state in the country….:-) but that’s ok because I’m doing something that is far beyond running a half marathon…..I’m proving to myself that I CAN do it!!

I love you guys….you have truly been an instrumental part of my journey, and

I hope you will continue to be for the rest of my life…..

Cheers to many more years and friendships along the way!!!! emoticon

ps---re cramping calves, check out zensah calf sleeves. i haven't had calf cramps yet but they help your legs feel less fatigued, and my running partners (kid, dh, buddies) all love em. i wore em for the SF full last yr and kiddo and i wore em for the carlsbad half last mo. they're available at quite a few places online, i get mine from zombierunner.com or roadrunnersports.com.

Good luck on your half! I did mine in Sept 09. I can't believe I actually ran 13.1 miles. And you will too! Isn't it amazing what we are able to achieve with just the right motivation whether by spark people, our spark friends or just our own achievements! Anne
