Running Journal 2/21/2010 (8 miles)

Today was a planned long slow run since it is afterall Sunday. Duh! Isn't that what you do on Sunday if you are a runner? It was a fabulous run for a total of 8 miles and I was STRONG. I took it slow and went out with my handheld water bottle that is breast cancer awareness pink...shocked aren't you? I took a pouch of Peter Rabbit Organics Strawberry & Banana and it worked great! I learned about this from one of the threads pertaining to fueling and this was slick. It is actually a toddler food but hey...whatever works! I consumed that about 50 minutes into my run as I was trekking up The Hill.

Cloudy 34 degrees 7-ish mph wind
Streets 100% bare pavement

Long Slow Run
Intervals: 4/:30 (works so well for me but I will try 2/1 soon)

8 miles
Time: 1:40:26 (it actually went by fast)
12:32 av pace
4.8 av MPH (slow I know so no comments from the peanut gallery)

I was thrilled with this run and I took it nice, slow and relaxed. I found that because I carried my water in my hand that it "weighted" my arms down as to keep a relaxed arm swing that PT Candi preached to me. I was well-fueled before and during the run. Since we are heading to FLorida this week my running mileage will be down a little from normal so consider this coming week to be a good chance for a cutback week.

If anyone is wondering why I am increasing my distances, there is a Half marathon in May that I am keeping my eye on. If I can increase my distances SMARTLY and I am, then I will run it. Again, I am convinced my running ST is making me a strong, confident and extremely happy runner.

Oh, how I love this feeling of accomplishment!!!
