People tell me I won't be able to do it....

Thursday, March 04, 2010

Ok, the week of March 16-21 is my spring break from my college. I intend to go for a 30-mile bike ride on a flat bike path by the water (this is New England, so weather permitting of course...LOL) Some people are telling me that I won't be able to do it. That is what people told me last year when I bought a bike for the first time in 15 years....

I was heading out for my first ride on that new bike (an 18 speed Schwinn from Walmart..hehehe) and told my friends I was going to ride 10 miles. They all told me I was nuts and that I wouldnt be able to do it. Well, I started pedaling that darn bike and by the 2 mile mark, I literally thought I was going to die. My legs felt like they were going to come off at the hips and my breathing (asthma) was out of control. Well, failure was not an option, so I took a break near a wildlife sanctuary, locked up the bike in rack, and went for a short 1-mile stroll to stretch my legs and regain my mental composure. I got back in the saddle and decided to finish what I had set out to do....I even did one extra mile for the "Ha ha, I can't believe you all doubted me" kind of gloating!

Within 4 weeks of that bike ride, I did a 31-mile ride (my friends still thought that was not going to happen) but I did that, too!

Well, I've been going to the gym 5 days a week, and always riding the stationary bike at least 10 miles at a shot. I have resolved that in just about a week and a half, I am going to get out my bike (which I upgraded to a 24 speed Diamonback mt. bike, which is so much lighter than the Schwinn) and ride 30 miles for my first ride of the season. I know that I am going to be hurting afterward, but it will be ok. And once I do this ride, I know that I will achieve my summertime goal of doing a 50 mile bike ride :)

Awsome you go girl!! I tried to sign up for the nyc 5 boro bike tour which is 42miles. I did it about 5years ago and it was great. If you lived in NY and we had signed up earlier before it got sold out ( in feb for a may ride!) you would be a perfect riding partner!!!

Keep going feel that air hitting your face and the freedom of being on a bike. I used to hop on my bike to calm down when I got angry or to just see how far I could go, i didnt have a car yet lol ( i still don't)

Newayz enough rambling: Just wanna say you CAN do it!!!

I have an amazing ability to push myself when I am on the bike. My friends' already doubt me, so I wouldn't want to ask one of them to come with me...I love my friend's and mean no offense to them, but this is my goal and I do not want someone else to possibly stop me from achieving it.
