To Our Youth from JPII
Sunday, March 07, 2010
I got this from the youth minister at church, reading all the way through before knowing who wrote it. So beautiful from such a truly, holy man of God.
"It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your heart your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle. It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be ground down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal."
POPE JOHN PAUL II
WORLD YOUTH DAY 2000
I just love this! When it came to me today, I read it three times consecutively without stopping. Before I was half through, tears were in my eyes, then I tasted the salt from them and finally tears dripped from my face. I suppose I am sentimental, and prone to emotional response when I read a work so powerful. So inspiring it is, so refreshing, like a wind blowing through me whispering a message to the young person I once was! And yet only a mere fragment of all that he spoke that day; no matter, it was what he was saying to me personally on this ordinary day, ten years later. Pope John Paul II could speak to the heart of any age person. However, I think he could be so eloquent and at the same time could get 'on the kid's level'. He could touch them as if he was seeing inside their hearts and minds, feeling what they felt and living the kind of life they live. He was an amazing person and I miss "Papa" so very much.
