Having fun cooking

I haven't had fun cooking in a long time. Probably since around the age of 5. It always seemed like a chore or just another thing that I had to do. However, lately I've been having so much fun making up new recipes. Yesterday I made a classic that my mom use to make for me when I was younger. Acorn squash with butter and brown sugar. In the past couple of months I have been making new wraps, salads, stir-fries, chicken with marinara sauce, lentil burgers/ meatloaf, pinto beans with ham bone, and the list goes on. Today I made squash fries, squash seeds, and more acorn squash with brown sugar and butter. I've been trying out a lot of new foods like white beans, lentils, squash, chicken, and more. Tomorrow I am making chicken when roast vegetables in the slow cooker. Can't wait! In the past I use to be so afraid of burning something or making something I didn't like and making food go to waste. I don't know if it was the end of working, the income restriction, more time on my hands, or sparkpeople that got me interested in making new stuff. Before I was eating lean cuisines or spaghetti cause they were quick. Now I am spending sometimes hours to make something new. I love it cause it keeps me busy and then I get to taste the reward in the end. I feel like I'm learning more and more every day. Maybe it just runs in the family genes, but I'm loving my new life of cooking great and interesting food. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I discovered my passion for cooking (and baking!!) since I am on this journey. I love trying out new things too, and I could browse cook books for hours and hours... :)
    It makes losing weight so much easier, eating all that healthy yummy stuff, you never want to go back to frozen pizzas!

    I used the recipe on sparkpeople, but they didn't turn out crispy and took a lot of work. Had to peel the acorn squash, cut it up, added season salt, and cooked for 35 min on 400 degrees. Next time I'll probably leave them in longer or try a different kind of squash. One thats easier to peel. However they were tasty. Kind of like sweet potato fries just soft. emoticon

    i love the food network and i usually watch it sundays. they have started having more healthy meals on there (exception of the butter queen paula). your squash fries sounds interesting, how did you make them ??
