#264: How Deep Is Your Foundation?

Saturday, March 20, 2010

The taller a building, the deeper its foundation must be.

In Mark 7 we are taught that:

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock."

"And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."

"And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand."

"And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

This Biblical story of the house being built on a weak foundation of sand shows us that life is tenuous. It also reminds us that there exists a higher power to tap into, one that has the deepest foundation in the universe.

Remember, it is nearly impossible to get the rest of a house right if the foundation is not built right. And, it is as impossible for us to get our lives straightened out if our attitudes are weak.

Wise people know that life will have its share of storms, that all will not be quiet and peaceful. Oftentimes, our lives are filled with tempests that test our faith. We can not ignore these rocky times. We must face them head-on and know that calm and rainbows will soon follow.

How high in life do you want to go? Do you have something other than the physical world to believe in?

How deep is your foundation?

I too like this blog! Got me thinking! I have been a christian 37 years in june but i am learning everyday and striving to do better. Always wish i had a lady mentor full of love to help me along the way but the ones around me where ready to condem me before the Lord had a chance to show me right from wrong. I would have had a better foundation at an earlier stage in my christian walk. I want to help other younger christian ladys by being an good example to them! THANK YOU ! emoticon

Here in southeast Louisiana we know firsthand the danger of inadequate foundations. If we build houses (or relationships or dreams or plans or hopes or anything) on ground that has been improperly prepared, whatever we build sinks. Literally. Even those who thought they had solid foundations learned from Katrina that we have to check our foundations from time to time because the worst of life's storms may shake those that appear sturdy. On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand. Thank you for yet another insightful blog, my friend. God bless.

“Character is like the foundation of a house - it is below the surface.” Unknown

“The foundation stones for a balanced success are honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty.”
    Zig Ziglar

I like that song, " On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand". Joy

Sometimes we falter; but when we are trusting God, and leaning on the everlasting arms, we have nothing to fear!

Lou, my DH and I became Christians exactly 15 years ago. We have done fairly well at building the foundation strong enough to weather the storms, but there are so many areas we just didn't have in the beginning. We are praying that the Lord will continue to bless us with love and wisdom as we keep our eyes fixed on Him. I really hope that we were able to give our children the foundation that they so badly need as children growing up in such a fallen world.

YATMAMA reminded me of a verse and a song that I am totally embracing..."...for I know the one in whom I have put my trust, and I'm convinced that he is able to protect what he has entrusted to me until the day that he comes." 2 Tim 1:12

My faith gives me a firm foundation. When life happens, I take comfort in knowing that God is in control and he will take me where I need to go. I remember as a child singing a song about "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man"... "so build your house on the Lord, Jesus Christ"...the words are still with me.
