I am 66 years old. I have fought the weight battle most of my life. Trying every weight loss program losing the weight and gaining it back again. I have learned that over 50 everyone has a problem with weight. Mostly because our metabolism slows down and we require less food than when we were younger. However, we still eat the same portions. Restaurants bring the food but they do not give out the portion according to your age. Everyone get the same portion. If you are like me you clean your plate or take the leftover home and eat it later. We need to look at this not like a diet but like a lifestyle change. I have joined a gym and am trying to learn portion control. I do not want to give up everything I love to eat. I want to be healthy. We will probably never be thin again at this age, but we can be smaller and healthier. Use smaller portions and join a gym. Be sure to take the classes, because you will get motivation from the other members. If you work out alone you may quit when it gets tough. When you see what others are doing you don't want to give up. I am toning my body, from body pump class....regaining my flexibility and balance from yoga....and strengthening my knees and building endurance from my spin classes. It will not happen overnight. But if you hang in there for at least one month you will see big changes and begin to feel younger. Then you will not want to quit and you will say this is a lifestyle I can live with and not a diet.
