The Technology Trap
Monday, April 05, 2010
It amazes me how dependant I am on technology that didn't even exist when I was in high school, much less when I was born.
Today at work, something went screwy with my phone. The problem is, the network connection for my computer is routed through my phone, so I was without my phone (all five lines), my documents (which live on the network server), email and internet for about three hours. Guess how much work I got done in that time? That's right - not a lick! And what was the problem? The power source for the phone was fluctuating, so the phone kept trying to reload its program.
When I started my work life (yes, back in the dark ages) - I hardly ever used a computer. And the only thing that took out our phone service was a tree taking out the phone lines. And I put in full days of work!
I think I miss those days.
