I consider today's run an experiment in so many ways but it was ultimately enjoyable. First of all, I wore my running skirt for the first time and I am in love!!! I LOVE IT!!! No, its not pink and I am sure you are shocked by that. I hate running in shorts cuz I am always dealing with you know...shorts creep. With the skirt I don't give a rip with what the attached shorts are doing underneath LOL.

I purposely made this a short run but I wanted to make it a fast one to mimic 5k running although I ran 3 miles as opposed to 3.1. I like nice rounded numbers like that as I am OCD afterall LOL. As you can see my first split is 10:07 which is record time for a mile. Sorry, can't do any faster, folks. I did NOT run intervals this run which is very unusual for me as I wanted to do straight running. I did however walk a few times for just a short time especially towards the end.

As you can see that my splits had a gradual decline with each mile but that is what I expected since I did NOT run intervals. I am going to try and have one of these short fast runs every whipstitch just to see if it helps me run 5k races. if anyone would like to chime in on this, please do.

I gained alot from this short outing including falling in love fast with my SkirtSports running skirt! Get one, you'll love it!

    If I recall correctly, even Galloway doesn't push intervals for anything but the long run. You might to practice longer continuous running on your easy days though instead of pushing both pace and duration simultaneously. Especially madame "listening to her backside" yesterday who all the sudden is running record miles today. ::cough::

    It sounds like you are basically trying to add tempo to your plan. You don't necessarily want to run record miles during tempo runs. Have you used the Mcmillan running calculator before. It will give you a tempo run pace based on a recent race result. You might want to try running the fast mile toward the end of an easy running workout.

    That simulates running fast at the end of a race when you are tired. It will also ensure you are nice and loose for the speed part. Start out with a mile at tempo pace, and then once you are used to that, start running more of the workout at that pace, building up gradually to where you have a short warmup run, mostly tempo pace, and then a short cool down run at easy pace.

    When I start adding tempo, that's the way I'll do it. Not quite there yet, but I may try some of this over the summer.

    Aren't running skirts just the BEST???? I have one from SkirtSports and another from RunningSkirts and I am already hooked!! They are great! (I loathe running shorts...on me. They just look weird on my body and have chafing/ride-up issues...) Glad you had a great run today!
