Social Event of the Season: CRAB FEST!!!

Ever have one of those days that just THINKING about it makes you smile? That was last night for me! “Everybody” had been talking about Crab Fest for AT LEAST a week and all anyone could say was “Aare you going Friday?” or “See ya Friday at Crab Fest!!” (Unofficially “locals” night: ANYBODY who’s ANYBODY goes on Friday night!)

It’s not like we can’t get our crab or seafood fix anytime we want: HELLOOO! We live on the coast! And wine or local beer? Yep, got that. Wine shops all over the place and several local breweries too. But put them all in one location, add some local musicians, lots of vendors selling their wares (“Garlic Lovers Garlic”), your friends, neighbors and co-workers, and well, you have THE Social Event of The Season!!

Greg drove Lexi and me to Corkey’s where we caught the shuttle. Not just ANY shuttle – our bus driver was none other than “Miss Roxanne” – Lexi’s everyday schoolbus driver!! We arrived and went straight to my favorite beer vendor (Rogue Ales) where Lexi and I could not pass up $5 crab hats!! (I’m gonna pimp mine out for Camp Rosenbaum and for Crab Fest/Birthday weekend NEXT year!) Met up with my very good friend Mary from the National Guard who recently moved to the coast. THEN the party was ON!! Crab Fest always occurs around the time of my birthday – and you can’t ask for a better party!! A few of us like to celebrate our birthdays there. Everybody’s invited and no leftover cake!

I told Lexi if we got separated, to either find one of mommy’s friends or go to the Lost and Found / First Aid booth and have them call me. I asked if she remembered my phone number, which she couldn’t. So… I WROTE IT ON HER ARM!

I saw Kallie – the “garlic lovers garlic” of beauticians! And Kallie is not JUST a beautician – she is a truly beautiful person and I am honored to call her my GFIC (girlfriend in charge {of my hair!}). I saw my boss and my favorite cop lieutenant (he’s always so silly!). Oh, and speaking of cops, seems like every time I stopped to chat or “sample” the local fare, a couple of the uniforms would gather nearby. EVERY. TIME. Like bees to honey!!! A bunch of friends from Camp Rilea were there – I miss seeing them every month (although I don’t mind having my weekends back after 22 years!). My very favorite neighbors too – we’re like “Wilson” neighbors (Home Improvement), talking over the fence; kids climb the fence to play in each other’s back yards. Dance moms. Firemen. “Frequent Fliers” (those on our “radar” at work).

The food, DEE-LISH. The beer, MMM! BEEEERRR! The wine, FAB-U-LUSH! But 9 o’clock came too soon, and it was time to brave the crowd and elements and catch the Halibut shuttle home. Belly full. Purse full of beer shot glasses. Raincoat full of garlic lovers garlic, a "Naked Winery" wineglass, a bottle of, you guessed it, Naked Winery wine – IN a paper bag! Lexi’s pocket full with reusable lemonade cup AND straw and a t-shirt “won” at the Census table rolled up and carried in her hood. We disembarked at Corkey’s and began our half-mile trek home, with our matching crab hats and holding hands. Like Pooh and Piglet. We had walked about a quarter mile, when lo and behold, one of our all-time favorite deputies rolls up and offers us a “courtesy ride” home! He was off-duty and just happens to live two houses down! Lexi adores him, so I let her ride up front.

And no, it was NOT my first ride in the back of a police car! Geez!

I am jealous that your weather is nice enough to have festivals already, lol. Our weather is finicky for another month or two and then the festivals start, YAY!
I can't wait for summer to come...
Glad you had an awesome night!
