#300: Does Stagnant Thinking Have You in a Rut?

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Does your thinking need refreshing?

It's easy to get into routines that soon turn into ruts of doing the same things in the same way day after day, ruts that drain us of our creativity and energy.

When was the last time you drove a different route to or from work or the library or when was the last time you even turned into a different entrance to a shopping center? If you walk or jog or bike, how often do you vary your routes? Do you ever expand your paths into adjoining neighborhoods? How about nearby towns for a fresh perspective and to add some spice to the day? What about getting out of doors at a different time, if possible?

To avoid ruts we must expand our visions and stretch our comfort zones.

Ruts rob us of our life force and may drive us into despair and depression, like looking at wilted flowers day after day. But how do our spirits soar when we have fresh, colorful bouquets decorating our offices and homes?

What are your ruts? How can you get out of them and put freshness into your life?

I know what you mean Lou, like someone once said ,"variety is the spice of life " , and I do like variety in what I eat or where I walk. But I like variety within some kind of routine.

My problem at the moment is I have had so many doctor appointments and test that I fell away from my normal routine and I want to get it back, but I feel like that commercial where the Lady fell and can't get up.

Your blogs and my spark friends prayers are my life line and you guys keep me going when the going gets tough.

Getting out of those comfort zones, even when it's uncomfortable there is always a great start. That's why I like a job that's a little different daily. Otherwise I seem to get bored. Exercise routines can also send me right over the edge! I'm going to look into Zumba, as Walkinlove suggested to me a few weeks ago, just to get out of the norm! Thanks for the refreshing thoughts, you put on your blogs!! They always seem to speak to me right where I'm at!

Our norms have all been exploded of late. Even in the midst of pure chaos, we are finding things to enjoy, though. Plenty of it is simply because, as you say, we are in a different place, doing something unusual, seeing new people, doing different things. It really is a breath of fresh air, even in the middle of the frustrations!

The only thing I do the same everyday is exercise, but not at the same time, otherwise, there are a bunch of things which need to be done. Each day something new comes along to add to the pile. People do get in ruts and end up getting depressed.
Your blog will awaken people to their life style and maybe you have caused them to change it a little. Good blog.

The best I can do to spice it up here is to change what DVD's I am using for the day, and occasionally, I get to do my cardio outdoors. But I agree; it is necessary to change things up now and then!

You are so right -- it's very easy to fall into the same old routine. Varying your exercise routine is a good way to keep it interesting. I like trying different sports and activities and even in cooking, I read cookbooks and magazines and browse online to find new recipes.

Lou! I AM NOT IN A RUT!!! emoticon Every day I walk a different way; I have all sorts of maps in my tracker! Sometimes, I ride my bike, sometimes I walk. Then, there's the garden and the horses! Just getting off my HINEY was what I needed so badly, and I'm so glad I'm there! emoticon Lori

By spicing it up! Easier said then done! There is comfort in familiar routines! I admit, I am getting quite bored with my exercise routine! Told hubby I need to join a step aerobics class in September or something, but today... that feels really far away! Trying to knock my fear of jogging outside - have wanted to do this for 2 years now... this year... I MUST DO IT! Yet... still haven't! I blame weather... hahaha! I have sensitive ears and throat... those are my excuses! Really... I fear people laughing at my butt jiggling... sad... I know! But... hahahah.... but... that won't make my butt jiggle less if I don't get out there and do it! COME ON ME! I need to prove to myself that I can do this! Babysteps! I don't have to do the whole 5K route in one day... although I mapped it out... so that's progress! Anywho... thanks for yet another thought provoking blog! Jogging outside may change my rut!
