What's Up?

Monday, May 03, 2010

I haven't blogged since February. That should tell you just how incredibly busy my life has been :)

Let's see....March found my daughter and I at her national cheer competition. It was 3 days of mommy/daughter time and we had a blast...mostly LOL. The 5AM fire alarm at the hotel wasn't on my "fun" list. The fact that I didn't grab my room key, shoes, or coat kind of stunk (DID grab my daughter's shoes and coat). Apparently, someone in the hotel burnt their breakfast and set off the alarm.
Here's a pic of her during the competition (she's the flyer) and of her eating at Hard Rock. I ordered her an adult steak meal (she loves steak) and they messed up her order, so we got her meal free :) Good times...

We were also on Spring Break in March and I took the kids bowling - we had an absolute BLAST!!!

April brought the 6th birthday of my "baby boy" and the loss of his two front teeth - which still have not grown in and I think he looks absolutely adorable!!

We also had the twins' second piano recital last month - proud momma here...

And now it's May...wow. I have been really focusing on simplifying life lately. It seems as though you have to make a bigger mess before you can get to the simplicity, but I'm getting there....slowly, but surely. I'm focusing less on caring for others, which don't get me wrong, is a good thing, but not when you do it to excess - which I have been (people pleaser here...). I quit my position as vocal/choir director at my church effective the end of the month. I'm focused on the kids and getting myself back on track. My eating has not been good and I've not been running much - so that needs to change. Once school is out, I'll definitely be getting more runs in.

So....I'm pulling out my purple nail polish and my lip gloss and facing the world a stronger, happier woman. :)

Awesome! It's so nice to hear that you are getting some more "you" time! I often pray for that for you because you give and give so much and "you" are a priority too!! :)

Love your pictures!! Casey lost his two front teeth and only one of them has come in lol. He has lost five teeth so far (top and bottom and one of his other bottom teeth).

I am so proud of you. It is easy to lose ourselves taking care of others and not what we were really meant to do. We are meant to teach others to take care of themselves. I often found it was easier to do things myself but my son never learned anything when I did. Over the years I have cut back and I no longer try to solve everyone's problems in the world. It's enough to take care of me, my husband, son, and property. At one time I wondered if I was being selfish and now I know I'm not. You have a job, a husband, a home., and wonderful children. Quite enough to handle without the extras. Your children are beautiful.

I just want to tell you how I admire you taking the step to "step back" in regards to your choir director, I know how hard that is for you! ( if you are like me! )
Sometimes we want to do it all, and you are very wise to set priorities and be realistic!
    your kids are so cute!
and they grow up so fast!

Don't feel guilty about giving up a few things, always time for others to step up. As your own kids get older you'll find their activities need your attention.
    Glad for the update.

You ARE a busy woman! Being a mom is a crazy busy life but it's the good kind of crazy, right?

Good for you for recognizing that you have to balance the giving to others and giving to yourself. That should help you to get back to your running and taking care of yourself.

Great job on refocusing & simplifying your life. I have done that too but if I give a little bit I tend to find I get overloaded again. Once I finish my exam (hopefully by tonight) I can breathe a bit, till the next chapter! :-)
