Shakin Up My Routine!

Monday, May 24, 2010

I realized this little PLATEAU from hell that has had me stuck at 189lbs for eons now had got to END! Inches are coming off, but I want my weight to go down to feel fully satisfied that I am DOING something here for my health. I've read so many message boards and blogs that talk about the importance of switching up your excercise routine to keep your body guessing a bit and to keep our little fat burning, calorie shredding machine going so I figured it's NOW or NEVER!

I woke up early on Saturday although I felt had I kept my eyes closed I could have quite possibly slept in another hour or two (the kiddos were with grandma for the weekend - YAAAY) haha...sounds mean, but any of you with kids I'm pretty sure completely understand! Suddenly, I remembered a local indoor pool that had lap swimming in the ams. I didn't know the schedule, but I called and adult lap swim was available until 9:30am so I literally THREW on the swimsuit and flew over there.

Can you believe it's only $4?? I was loving that idea. And I was even MORE happy that I didn't look like the most out-of-shape gal there, either! Matter of fact, I looked pretty darn good in comparison (not that I was checking out chicks or anything) emoticon

This pool is freaking HUGE! The length is estimated at 75 meters and laps are done width-wise (20 yards each way). Now, mind you I was on the swim team "Back in my day, sunny" in my youth, but it's been quite a bit since I've swam LAPS. Heck, it's gotta be like riding a bike, right? Well...yes, and NO! I loved the feeling of the warm water and feeling so free and LOW IMPACT - no pain on those poor joints that have been brutalized by jogging - it felt AMAZING!!! I felt invincible - well...for the first 10 laps or so...then I got completely and utterly winded...had to cheat a few laps between my crawl and breast stroke and grabbed a kickboard, BUT - I kept right on going! I felt GREAT! I went all the way til quittin time at 9:30 so got in about 40 min or so and can you believe when I crawled out, my legs felt like JELL-O!!!!!!!!!!!!! emoticon

Here's a pic of the pool:

Now, I won't be posing ANY pics of me in the suit though...not until I see some REAL progress!
I also invested in Julian Michaels' "30 Day Shred" so I could see what all the buzz was about. I figured I can do this when it's rainy or super windy outside since Mother Nature's been playing tricks on us here in the Bay Area! emoticon I will also be saving up for a mountain bike so I can hit some trails and hopefully I'll be buying one within the next month.

As far as my eating went, my am's I was a "good girl". Saturday I fueled up with old fashioned oatmeal, a bit of honey, a ton of blueberries, craisins, and raisins, fat free milk, and some ground flaxseed. Yesterday I made an all egg-white spinach, tomato, mushroom and feta cheese omlette. My afternoon on Sat was kinda bad - hubby wanted Mickey D's so I had some chicken nuggets, fries and a sweet tea (I know - sodium city) and yesterday it was Chinese food to the rescue for dinner. I had a small amount of sweet and sour pork, orange chicken and fried rice. Another bad choice, but with all the swimming on Sat. am I figured I pretty much cancelled out the McDonalds and yesterday I didn't eat all my food at dinnertime, so we'll see how I did once I plot the food in my nutrition tracker. (Fingers Crossed). My fitness tracker told me I went way above my cardio time for the week - hmmph. I guess it's better than way UNDER and I don't generally go too far above anyhoot.

Here's to a new day and changes ahead for my cardio routine! I can't wait!

Good idea to shake things up any way you can when the scale stops moving. And a big emoticon to you for making a change ASAP! You ROCK!

I was stuck at the same weight from 4/24 until last Friday when the scale finally moved to the left one tick. One pound and I was ecstatic!

Wowser!!!! You kicked it in gear!!! I'm willing to bet you have some soreness from the swimming, now that you've had a couple of days!! But its a good feeling! Sounds like you have a plan and ready to kick that plateau's booty!!
