A couple 5K's later...

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

I ran two 5K's in two weeks. The first one was the first annual Forest Hills 5K. It was in the neighborhood where I grew up, to benefit the school district - an out and back, with a turn and another short out and back. I finished it in 33:39. I have gone faster, but am OK with this time for three reasons: 1. I was running with my 10 year old niece, who finished her first 5K in 35 minutes! 2. My first mile was in 9:44 - that's the first time I have been under 10 minutes in 14 months of being injured and recovered! 3. My pace was 10:53 - that's the fastest pace I have run since last March!

The second 5K was Kick's For Kids, which benefits children with disabilities. It was this past Saturday, and was VERY hot. There were THREE bridges. For those who don't live near a major waterway, the Ohio River is almost .5 wide, and the Licking river isn't as wide, but the bridge is very big! For us in Cincinnati, bridges = hills. I finished this 5K in 34:43. I'm not too happy with the time, but I did walk a little bit, and it was hot and hilly.

I have been MIA from Spark since the Flying Pig, but have continued to exercise/train/watch what I eat, etc. Just trying to do it on my own for a while. I just don't have the time to spend logging everything into the computer. However, I am doing LOTS of cross training right now, because marathon training doesn't start until June 19 for my fall race, and I know I will be running a lot more once I start training. I am trying to do a lot of cycling 40-50 miles a week, and some aerobics and strength training.

Hope everyone is doing well, and enjoying their summer time weather!
