Desperate to get moving again

Thursday, June 03, 2010

I've managed to drive a little way, more than 10 mins or so and my knee starts hurting like crazy, throbbing and feeling really tender, but it does give me a bit more independence.

I'm dying to get moving again. I may well go to the gym later today and sign up. Get them to arrange a programme for me to follow despite my knee. That's providing the people picking up my parcel arrive in time. If not, I'll do it tomorrow. I had thought about swimming but I'm not a very good swimmer and worried that I may not be able to get out of the pool without help. Last thing I want is to end up looking and feeling like a beached whale in the pool.

I've got an appt with the physio on Tuesday so hopefully she'll give me some more good advice.

My cat has come out in sympathy - he's been fighting and has been bitten down to the bone, this have given him an abscess and he's hopping around on 3 legs the poor thing. The vet's bills hurt almost as much as my knee lol

Still stuck at just over 14st - I must be thankful that I've not sat here and put on huge amounts of weight, I am going to have another push and try and get under 14st for my birthday in 2 weeks. It will be good for my knee too.

I'm also going to make more of an effort to check out other people's blogs and posts. I've been very self centred recently. Time to ease myself back into the world.

Besides, you are too gorgeous to fill beached whale status!

I loved water aerobics (especially when I was having food problems). They had a great (and cheap!) class down at the local leisure centre. Also, since you're in the deep end, there's wide steps easy to get in and out of the pool. And lots of ladies of varying sizes and ages, so you won't feel at all like a beached well! lol

Physical Therapy has done wonders for me with the pain in my knee. Learning exercises to help build the strength up in the muscles that are weak. Hope all goes well for you! Also water aerobics is wonderful on the knees if you have a pool.

I hope your physio gives you exercises to help out, in the mean time would wearing a knee support help?

I've got a foot problem going on that's pretty much preventing my walking - that is, I CAN walk, but I have to 'save' that for doing the ordinary things around the house and so on. So I know only too well how it feels when the main activity you enjoy and rely on for fitness is suddenly not there. Yesterday, while I was sitting around feeling maudlin (me? indulge in self-pity? why, surely you jest), I thought 'Okay, I've been TALKING a good game about finding other exercises, doing upper-body, chair aerobics, more yoga, all that. Now maybe Fate has found a way to push me out of my comfort zone and force me to try other things.' All right. I gave you all this advice then didn't take it my own self. So now I will. I have an appointment this evening with the GP to get referred to a podiatrist, but instead of waiting until the podiatrist can see me (could be a week, could be six months, I have no idea) I will see what I CAN do and try some experiments. Well, I will, as long as you go to the gym no later than tomorrow. Deal? :-)

You're allowed to be self centred when you're in pain!

I hope your physio can help you out with what exercise to do
