Jury Duty

Thursday, July 01, 2010

I am still hanging in there. Amazingly it seems summer break has not really started. I had a work related 2 week workshop to attend right after school ended, After a week of working out and enjoying myself, i found out I was summoned to JURY DUTY!! If death wasnt final, i would pick death over jury duty. For the past 3 days, (2 more left) I have played an unreal waiting game. I have always wondered what it was like and now I know I never want to do it again.
Basic schedule:
8:00am .................arrive
8:30am................. listen to speeches about the process
10:15am ................break (15mins)
12:00pm................lunch
1:30pm..................repo
rt back to jury room
3:00pm..................brea
k (15mins)
5:00pm..................done for the day

We have to report at 9am, but nothing happens until 10am if you are lucky. If you're not nothing happens all day. I got called up to the court room for questioning at 11:30 on the first day. I was not selected, so I was sent by to the jury room. I was never called up again.
On the second day, I was never called so I spent the day waiting. On day three, I was called again just after 11am, but I guess the case was settled, because we were sent back down 10 minutes later. Again, was never called again for the day. We get to bring out laptops, etc so that helps if you have wireless. For some reason my wireless is not working, so I have just been watching stuff i have saved on Real player. There are 3 tv's but the bailiff controls what we can watch. He keeps the remote in his pocket and we know if he gets up to turn them off that means someone is getting called up. There are over 100 of us there, but they only call about 20 at a time. We never had more than 3 groups called in an entire day.
The sitting is really taking a toll on my low back and my energy level. I really need to see what I can do to over come these to huge setbacks. When I get home all i want to do is eat, then sleep!!!
The good news is in 2 days this is over and i can collect my money and pray I am never called again. I would honestly prefer to go to work than to this.

Jury duty is different in every state. I was called regularly in TX -- and always picked for a jury -- and I hate the whole thing.

Well, this too shall pass, as they say.

I, too, would also pick death over JD....you're never really "lucky" no matter how the day goes......at least whenver I've been called I've always been able to pack some kind of lunch in order to avoid the nuisance and poor nutritional risks involved in going outside for the meal.....I've never been called, which makes the waste of time even worse.....the last time I even LOST PAY since I was not a "regular employee" (that's another hot button issue that I'm not even gonna get into-unless you want to see this blog essentially "froth at the mouth").....

Whenever I hear or read about folks who praise their experiences, I just had to say to myself, "WHAT - ARE YOU NUTS?"

Hope all goes well for the rest of your time there!

Thanks for letting us know what goes on when one is called for jury duty. I have never been called, and I think I would absolutely 'freak out' if I were to be called. Glad you are almost through with it. Hang in there!
