Raining in Texas
Thursday, July 01, 2010
We are getting a fair amount of rain as a result of hurricane Alex hitting northern Mexico (I live in Texas). Normally, we don't get a lot of rain at this time of year, and we have to conserve water by only watering lawns on assigned days and other such practices. But this week we are really getting a fair amount of rain. And people all around are complaining that we will, in all likelihood, have rain on the 4th of July.
While I understand the disappointment--it's THE 4th, so that means picnics and fireworks, and other fun outdoor activities--I'm also confused. The people who are complaining about the rain are the very same people who complain about needing more rain because the grass is dry and brown and plants are dying and . . . .their lists are endless.
Honestly, I'll take rain whenever we can get it since this tends to be our dry season! I can spend my 4th inside with family and friends just as easily as I can outside. Ok, so using our grill is out, but there are other things we can do. Seems to me the point is that we are together and having a good time. Indoors-outdoors-maybe a little of both if the rain stops for awhile.
The "whining about the rain" crowd has made me more aware of the ability to make the choice to look for the good in things rather than complain. Seems to me that is something I need to do more regularly. Maybe it will even help me from getting stressed!
Thanks for reading! Have an awesome day!
