This was yet another enjoyable easy run to the point where I had forgotten the scheduled run was an easy 2 mile run and I took it out another mile. Oops my bad. It was very humid but that is the norm anymore and it doesn't even phase me now. It is also second-natured to run 3 miles without even thinking about taking it to a walk and if memory serves me, I can run 4 miles straight through. I wonder what another year of running will do. Hmmmm...stay tuned on that one.
I am now starting to look ahead at my next personal goal and that is my first stab at the 36th running of Bix 7 July 24. This is a great and very popular race that has drawn notable elite runners over the years. The race course is very challenging as the description even states "severe hills" The first one is at the beginning and is about a 7 to 9% grade, or 4 to 5 degrees, for around one third of a mile. There is another hill from he!! It is almost an unwritten requirement here in the Quad Cities that if you run, you run Bix. Last year I had just started running and was not even remotely close to taking on the challenge. This year I am going to experience running Bix along with almost 20,000 fellow runners and walkers. I am very nervous.
Bix 7 Race Course...note the grades
This race will serve as my long run that weekend since it is 7 miles long and along with my warmup and cool down, that will make the 9 miles that is scheduled for my long run that week. That will be perfect although I may run this race a tish faster than my normal long run pace. I will just see how it is going during the race and make any necessary adjustments.
This week is the speedwork du joir on Thursday and we shall see what Kelley drums up for our weekly torture session LOL. Friday is an easy 2 mile recovery run and Sunday is a 9 mile long run and that will end week 6 of HM training.
