#393: A Change in Attitude
Friday, August 13, 2010
My eyes were opened this morning to a new way of thinking. It has made me realize that while being upbeat and seeking the positives in all situations is desirable, there is another aspect of our attitudes that is equally important.
What I understood today is that we also need to expect blessings to come our way. It is not enough to simply hope for good things to happen to us or to wish that difficulties will disappear, we must believe in our hearts that life will be good to us.
This year has not been one my best. Lately, troubles have dogged me on what has sometimes seemed a daily basis. Until this week, while I remained positive and reported on positive events in my life, I had not expected that life would be favorable. Rather, often I assumed whatever happened would be negative, and then I would search for the good aspects of those tribulations that invariably occurred.
This change in looking at life has lifted my spirits and has made me appreciate that while more troubles will undoubtedly come along, I can take them in stride because I now expect good fortune to follow me.
Let's EXPECT blessings. Let's don't merely hope for blessings or wish for them, let's EXPECT them to happen in our lives. Such thinking will, I am confident, lift our spirits and allow us to better deal with the difficulties that will arise.
As the 23rd Psalm reminds us, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life..." These are no longer just words to me. They are part of a new attitude.
