Last Day of Summer....
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
Today was the last day of Summer vacation for my kids. I had intended to make it a great day with our usual stop at Dunkin Donuts for breakfast on our way out to the mountain biking trail that we have been biking/running all Summer, and then take them to the quarry where I was finally going to JUMP!
Things did not work out as planned.....my oldest is still suffering from what I think is a combination of minor concussion / pollen allergy / water in the sinus' pain....today was a bad day as was the pollen index, so we reworked the plans.
Everyone slept late, I watched 4 or 5 episodes of Weeds (STRANGE SHOW) and then we made pancakes for breakfast (I only had 1 4") and watched the Marmaduke movie (REALLY BAD)....
Hung out until it was time to go to football...should he / shouldn't he....what should we do --- the end decision was to not participate in the practice, but watch and make sure he stayed on the same page as the rest of the team.
This is the part of parenting that I HATE....knowing that the right decision might not be the right one for 100% of the people involved. Would sitting out penalize Jake when he is better.....is he going to sit on the sidelines this weekend??? But in the end - in the whole life long decision making - sitting out is right - fingers/toes/arms and legs can all be reworked and you can function without them (not fun I know - but you can) - scramble the brain too many times and that's it - no do overs - no let's see if we can get a fake one to work with....once it's done it's done....
So - no exercise and not a great day diet wise, although I have stayed within ranges for the day....
Tomorrow they are off to school and I am hoping that I can get back into the groove of running 3-5 days a week and doing some cross training on others.....
