I worry about my kids!

Wednesday, September 08, 2010

So I went shopping for my daughter last Friday and I had a hard time finding clothes to fit her. She is going into kindergartent and is in the 95% for her height and weight. She is healthy and not chubby but I worry. She can not wear most 6X's and 7's are 4 inches to long for her. She is 52 pounds which is normal but she loves to snack. As soon as we get home from school and aftercare she wants a snack.

Luckily we had a hugh cookout for Labor Day so we had food left over. Last night it only took me 10 minutes to get dinner ready and feed them. So I think I am going to start cooking in bulk so I only have to truely cook every other day. If I can feed them as soon as they get home I can eliminate the unnecessary snacking all together. I am also starting to include my kids in my exercise. I work out normally in the morning before they get out of bed. I have been working out so hard lately I pulled a tendon in my foot (again). So I think I am going to do a little less in the morning for a while and add more family activity at night. This morning instead of doing the 7 miles on the bike I only did 3.15 miles. Last night after our quick dinner, the whole family took both dogs for a walk and went to two different play grounds in our neighborhood. The kids stayed active, did not ask for video games or tv and everyone got their exercise including the pets. I am going to try different things every night so the kids do not get wise to my plan or bored with it. Tonight I am going to pack the kids and dogs in the car and we are going to drive to the dog park. Beside the dog park is a kids park so I will walk lapse around the kids park with the dogs while the kids play.

I know in a day or two we are going to be filled with homework assignments for both kids but I think if I can try to get them out of the house 3 days during the week it will help everyone. So I will have to help with homework while heating up/cooking dinner. I know soon it will be to cold to take them outside and we will be stuck inside with the wii but I think I may check out some video's the kids will have fun with. Like belly dancing! I know my daughter would love it and I have heard it is a good workout.

I'm not a parent - so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I think healthy snacks are OK. From what I read, it is better to eat smaller "meals" rather than 3 bigger one's during the day.
Maybe talk to your pediatrician for some advice on what would be healthiest for your children.

Try not to worry about them. That doesn't solve anything and its harmful to your health. Just keep them active and provide healthy food and they should be ok.
