and some just plain suck
I'm not sure where today's HM went wrong. I had a good night's sleep the last three days, I hydrated and I ate pretty close to normal. I didn't change anything and STILL everything went sideways. The only thing that I can think of is that the yogurt I had this morning was not known to me.
The race started okay. I spent the first seven or so kms running with Paul and another running friend from Calgary, Karen. Then my tummy decided to make a rumble.... I told Paul that I had to stop at the next porta-pottie and he was to keep running no matter what. Four more stops just like that one, a foot cramp, a leg cramp, a phlegmy cough...... oh and my favourite shirt decided to chafe me again... and I was considering sitting down at the side of the road and waiting for a cab. With about six kilometres to go I found my lifeline - Logan. He rollerbladed along with me until the finish line. He encouraged me, distracted me and just made running and walking a LOT more enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, it was still hard and it still sucked BUT it sucked a whole lot less with him there. I got a stylin' new medal and a really cool shirt out of the day and a new PB for Victoria = 2:42:17. My second worst time ever but, again, you run the race you're dealt. You can bet that I'll be back. You can also bet that the stars will align for me next time. And, as my little running coach stated, "now you'll have a good race in Vegas". Bring it on!
