Let the official Training begin!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

As most of my followers probably know....I have completed the C25K program and had moved on to the Bridge to 10K

Well, keeping with the 'FLEXIBILITY' and 'SUSTAINABILITY' and 'CONSISTENCY' mantras I have going on, I felt it necessary to ditch the Bridge 210K program. Not because is wasn't good, simply because the CRAZY woman that I am scheduled Me, Myself...and yup yours truly a BOAT LOAD of official runs to participate in from October til Dec 31st. So it kinda conflicted where scheduling was concerned.

So to keep my CRAZY race schedule and PT sessions from getting slammed, I created a spreadsheet and training schedule that allows me to train for the 10K Resolution Run on Dec 31 AND get all these pesky little runs outta the way...Thanks to ANNE7X7 pointing me in the direction of Runner;s World online.

It was great at helping me create a personal and effective and DOABLE training schedule...I simply LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

As daunting as it looks on paper....I think it is manageable.

This week ends up being my 'do what I want' kinda week because I started the training on Monday of next week.

I am super excited....I have to actually learn stuff now...like what a tempo run is vs an easy run vs a long run, vs speed work...although let's face it...'Easy' run...who coined that one!!??? EASY!! HA! right!

I ran tonight...an 'EASY' run...lol...my son, my daughter and I headed out to run my wee 3K run...and after this weekend's race...3 was plenty for me.

I mapped my route out today so that the guess work would be gone. I charged my Garmin, as it died today at lunch. the iPod was charged and ready to roll....
Reily wanted to run with me as he is quite interested in running the 10K Resolution Run with me. This meant that Payton had to jump on a bike and ride along side.

Well as I am getting changed into running gear it dawns on me the my Garmin is sitting on my desk at work charging....CRAP...one I don't have my Garmin....2, hope no one steals it....3, I DON'T have my Garmin!!!

Lucky I mapped my route online earlier. So I grabbed the iPod, set the Run through Nike + and started on my merry way with kids in tow...which for future reference to those of you who think it's a great idea...I am hear to tell you that you are all absolutely, certifiably INSANE!!!!

Off we go and get about 1 km in to the run when I forget which street I was supposed to turn on...CRAP...so I wing it...knowing the iPod is off in it's calculations, I don't stop when it 'says' I have hit the 4KM mark...I don't fall prey to it's lies that easily you know!

I guess most of the route based on what I recalled from the route I HAD mapped...then I tacked on a bit for good measure....It turns out that when all was said and done I ran 3.7KM...instead of 3, I could have gone for the whole 5, but the schedule told me NOT to...so I listened!

I took ZERO walking breaks, yet had to do a few on the spot jogs and a few backward runs just to keep kids in line...so that kinda slowed me down a bit...I know...get over it!!! OK I WILL!!!

I got home in less than 29 minutes...which gives me a 7:40 pace...which is faster than my scheduled had me for...it said to do an Easy run for 3KM @ 9:20 pace...apparently I BEAT that...

Now someone please tell me why the hell I couldn't do that on Sunday?
I LOVED tonight's little run...my broken butt got some exercise and although it still hurts, it felt great while running....I FELT GREAT running...I LOVED it again...

I really AM an evening runner....not a morning runner...nope, NOT ME!

I needed this smooth run, it helped remind me that I LOVE running.

Anyway, WAY longer than anticipated...OOOPSY!

Off to LALA Land....Later Sparkers,

RUN RUN RUN!!

I don't think you are insane. Maybe a little crazy, but then what runner isn't. I am glad you got your schedule worked out and I hope it works for you. You will rock all these races and your training. Go get 'em.

My son almost always rides his bike while I run. I can't tell you how many times I have had to go back and put on a bike chain or fix some other problem. Don't tell anyone but I really, really enjoy the alone runs..... emoticon

I do well with schedules and I hope it works well for you

(Oh dear god I just about had a heart attack cause the music from your vlog came on super loud)

"easy runs" never end up being easy with me... maybe that means that I'm not pushing hard enough on the hard days? I don't know... it's hard when you start out running to differentiate between the two. Maybe eventually "easy" will actually be easy!

I find the "easy" paces a lot more challenging than the "hard" ones, you are not alone! The pace scheduling is absolutely the hardest part of any training program in my opinion. I tend to run all of my training runs at whatever pace feels right at the time. Invariably, the long runs are too fast and the short ones are too slow, but I'm going to work on that for the Resolution Run!

Looks like you've definitely found your happy running time - if that Sunday race had been in the evening you would have completely killed it!

This time next year I would really love to be writing a blog like this one. I have had some health trouble/injuries which are improving greatly. I hope to start C25K in January when I am certain my injuries are healed properly. I have never run, never been able to run - but I am so inspired to give it a go...

    WAY TO GO ANNIE!!!!

Did you catch ELYMWX's Running Naked blog a few days back? What is it with you runners and your technology? Hope your Garmin is right where you left it when you get to work tomorrow.

And kids are SUPPOSED to drive you crazy--it's their job!.

Here's a thought...little pressure on yourself, better pace and running experience. Does it really work that way? All I can say is that I seem to walk faster when I'm just walking than when I'm trying to push and time it. Something about the more natural pace, I suspect. Probably the reason I'm not motivated to compete in a long race, which is anything over 75 yards in my definition. Participate, sure. Compete, nah. Doesn't float my boat.

I'll just live vicariously through your escapades. emoticon

G'night Annie! Enjoy working your way through your spreadsheet...

Oh, and BTW, you're not the only one to find the "easy" paces difficult to keep :-)
