Experiencing God

Thursday, October 14, 2010

This study has been life changing for me and we're only in the second chapter. I hope and pray that you are able to do this study at some point in the future.

It's about discerning the voice of God.

The first chapter talks about how to hear from Him. The number one thing that Christians do--I'm certainly guilty of this--is say, "here's what I'm going to do God, please bless it". What we should be doing is saying "God, I'm available, what would You like to do through me today?"

"Planning what I wanted to do in the future would have been irrelevant if God intended to do something else."

It's not about knowing God's will for your life. It's about knowing God's will. Open your eyes. See where He's at work around you, then join in.

Yesterday we went through chapter two. How do you know when it's God speaking to you? When the Holy Spirit gives you a conviction about something, it's in keeping with the Word, and is confirmed by the mouth of one or two witnesses.

A quote from Mueller said that in prayer he works first on getting rid of any preference or opinion he has on the matter--emptying himself, so that he can hear more clearly and respond more quickly when God speaks.

When I used to teach Bible, I put extra emphasis on any passage that said, "This is the will of God for you." You'd be surprised how often people look right over those passages.

How many times I've heard Henry Blackaby (who wrote Experiencing God) say to see where God's a work and join in.
