As I sit here thinking about Veteran's day, I think about my dad and his years of service in the army. He served a rather short stint as compared to some others, leaving the army when I was young because he wanted us all to have a stable life rather than have to move every few years. But even for that short period of time, he and my mom gave up a lot. They got married when my dad came home on a weekend pass, and spent their "honeymoon" traveling back to his duty station. Some honeymoon! And that is just one small thing among the many during his years of service.
As I talk to friends who are vets or are currently serving, I realize the things that they have had to give up. And their families as well. I am hopeful that on this Veteran's day we remember to thank all who are serving and all who have served. But I am also hopeful that we will remember to say thank you to their families for sharing their loved ones and understanding.
Thank you to each of you!
