Race week...the final count down

I am in full blown taper mode for the marathon in JUST 6 DAYS!! I only ran 3 miles this morning and don’t run tomorrow. My coach has me running, what he calls, a lot during the taper. It isn’t much but I used to run 7 miles everyday leading up to it except the day before then I would just do 45 min on the elliptical. Yes, I did that. I ran some extra last week but this week I am following it…well almost. I ran 25 min not the 20 on the schedule today. I am feeling good. I did ten miles yesterday (sun) with two miles at comfortably hard pace. I decided not to look at my pace during the miles and just to look when I heard the mile beeps. I did marathon pace but still can’t imagine doing that for 26.2 miles. I am going to give it my best. I do have a secondary goal for this race as well though. At Grandma’s this summer when I knew I wouldn’t make my time I totally shut down. I want to PR at this race. I will break 2:50. I CAN do this. My mind is in a much better place. Last marathon I had my outfit all planned out; someone asked me a couple days ago what I was wearing. I still don’t know. I feel excited but strangely at peace. I have done the work, now it’s time to see what I am really made of. I hope it is something that runs fast! I need to remember to have fun. My Chiro gave me the best advice when I went in last week. Just relax and let it happen. I have done all the work now I need to just run.

    I like that advice. Besides as they say, the hay is in the barn and while you're not going to improve your PR chances at this point, you surely can screw them up. Enjoy your taper, rest your legs and you are going to FLY on race day!!
