2010 Is Almost Over and 2011 To Begin!

Friday, December 31, 2010

Been reading other blogs of year wrap ups and what they hope for in 2011, etc. and it has gotten me thinking.

2010 was a good year for me. I lost 40 pounds in 2010 which makes for an average of just over 3 pounds a month. This in spite of breaking my toe on May 27th and it took about 5 months to truely heal. Loosing weight was slow, but overall consistent. The last ten pounds though took from July until December. A bit frustrating. Now I am trying to enter maintenance mode, as I have reached a healthy bmi and think I have reached a healthy weight. Saw my doctor yesterday for my yearly physical and he seemed to agree, as did my cholesterol scores.

This brings up a few issues for me. I don't know much about maintenance. I would like to tighten up my stomach area and the loose skin that I have. I don't have a lot of loose skin, but do have some. The doctor claimed that can take 2 to 3 years. Any ideas on how to do either? I plan on continuing my strength training in 2011 with maybe some more emphasis on it and on the core.

My ultimate fear is that I will have to keep track of my calories for life. Why? One of my main problems is my love of food. We eat fairly healthy, but my portion sizes were out of whack. It seems to me, that if I don't track, then they will over time get of track just like they did before. I used to measure my cereal at one point, then thought, I can eyeball it and be okay. But you know what, I couldn't then and I doubt I can now. Will I always have to track? Or should I plan a one day a week non-tracking day? But when I do that, I am a bit afraid of overeating and worry a bit about it. Let's just say food seems to be an obsession for me. Will this diminish?

When it comes to exercise, my main problem is that I don't challenge myself. Treadmill, I do somewhat challenge myself, but do get a bit tired of always having to have a hard workout. Sometimes I get to where I don't want to do the treadmill. Today was weird, I decided to do stairs. I only made it up 418 stairs in 11 minutes and I was feeling it in my lungs. My son did twice as many as I did, and his legs were tired, but his lungs were fine. I wonder if my asthma isn't as controlled as I think sometimes. My asthma is exercise enduced, but most things I can do, but I don't push it a lot. Maybe that is why? Hmmm... Okay, so here is my resolutions for 2011

Fitness: Try something new once a month.

U (You): Get 8 hours of sleep every night. (Means in bed by 11:00 PM every night. I know this will be my problem area.)

Nutrition: Continue to remain in my calorie range for 6 days out of 7, even though I am in maintenance mode.

Couponing: Clean up my coupon clipping mess and work on material for teaching a coupon class in Waukesha, WI.

I also want to work on endurance on biking in the spring/summer/fall months and maybe stair climbing in the winter. Biking and the stair climbing seems to give my lungs a bit of a workout and I would imagine should be a good challenge for me.

You mention loose skin- I know some of what you are talking about- I have a foot overhang, I am dealing with. I was told that, hot towels applied to the area, then squeezing it and gently moving from one side to the other, will break up the fat, and it will dissolve and come out. I have noticed results,I think! If it's just loose skin, I question how it will go back into place, as it is extra, so I always thought, it needed to be removed surgically, and if not able to afford it, we just need to deal with it, accept it. Be happy it is skin, and not weight!

Eating- So Important- Eat to Live, Not Live to Eat-

that is so important, so much, makes one eat, getting together with friends, visiting family, when one is sad, or happy, upset or in love, dating to me was going out to eat and going to a movie and eating and drinking there, when I was young, All family doings was around food, birthday parties, anniversaries, holidays, toy parties, pampered chef parties, tupper ware parties, oh my it goes on and on, buffets topped everything off, a meal to gorge that don't cost a lot.
So glad we have/are learning to Eat to Live, so Life goes on for us, for a long long time.
