Did you gain over the holidays? SO WHAT!?!

I am reading "Thin for Life" by Anne Fletcher. It is not a new book, but a timeless classic. For the book she interviewed 160 "Masters" of weight loss to discover how they did it, and more importantly, what they do to to keep it off.

In chapter 1 she states that the "Masters" maintain their weight within a TEN POUND RANGE.

TEN POUNDS!?! I was stunned. Agog, even.

I always thought that regaining ten pounds was a disaster of epic proportions!! PROOF that I couldn't lose weight, would never lose weight, a total and utter failure!

Ten pounds. Apparently that's the line in the sand the Masters draw. The lesson here is WE are not failures and doomed to regain ALL the weight we've worked so hard to lose if we gained over the holidays. We just need to put it behind us, get on track, and move FORWARD.

I've been reading a lot of blogs over the past few days and lots of us are 'fessing up to weight gains over the holidays. SO WHAT! Let's just get back to business. I know I am!

Nothing positive ever comes out of negative thinking.

    Yep, I put on some weight. Hey it was the holidays! I deserve to have a good time. I'm not worried-I just need to get serious and buckle down for a few weeks.

    You hit a big nerve with that blog TG. I hope you keep posting bits of wisdom from "Thin for Life" by Anne Fletcher that sounds like it could be a great tool for all of us!

    You're so right! The scale says I gained 8 lbs since Thanksgiving - but I know a lot of that will melt off quickly now that I'm back to my normal routine of exercise, fruits & veg, and water!

    Another Spark friend talked about this yesterday also. I think our 10 pounds bothers us more because we worked so hard to lose it and we're still journeying to our natural setpoint. Once we get to where we want to be I think we will handle those 5-10 pounds exactly as you say.

    You are right about staying positive and looking forward.

    I love this! I've been stuck at the same point in my weight loss for months now...granted, i haven't been eating like i should. I've been looking at it as though i failed, but the truth is that it's a success because i didn't gain either. I tend to find the positive out of things in my life, so i need to remember to be like that when it comes to weight loss!

    Nicely said! I was devastated to find out that I gained a good 8 lbs in Dec, I am still hoping alot is bloat, but still 8 is alot. But, you are right, nothing positive ever comes out of negative thinking - so I move forward, hopefully learning something from this and knowing I will get back down and hopefully even lower. Thanks!
