Beloved Trainer/Instructor - Gone!

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

I have to vent somewhere about this as I am very hurt and deceived by the system but I think our trainer that left is as well.

Trainer#1 (will be abbreviated T#1) was asking to be brought on full time with our gym here at work. We have close to 500+ memebers and personal training, group exercise classes, paper work, and all of the other things that go along with keeping a gym running. We have 2 full time employees and T#1 was a half time employee. We needed more staff to help all of us out with our fitness goals and dreams of better bodies!

T#1 was the pilates instructor and has really helped me shed my pounds over the last year. She helped me get into classes and was the only kind face that I saw each morning when going to the gym. It was almost like a high school click before T#1 showed up.

T#1 measured me, weighed me, talked to me about food consumption - continued to encourage me to track the food. Took Fitness Pilates (Let me tell you she corrects your form, tells you when to breath in and out to get the maximum out of the workout as Pilates is 50% breathing. Tells you to drop weights if she sees you struggling - I have nothing bad to say about this trainer)

She has done great things for the gym with getting more people in the door, putting up an inspirational wall (I made the write up one month along with my picture of before and after with a 60LB weight loss), talks to everyone, answers questions, deals with modifying workout when needed for attendees in the classes, the list is endless.

So anyway back to my point - so instead of giving this job to T#1 they posted the position. The intern that helped out for 4 weeks back in 2008 got the job. The company that intervied T#1 told her while interview that they were concerned about her flexibility because of her kids! WHAT?!?!?! You can't say that you can't think that!

So needless to say T#1 was called Christmas Eve night and told she would be done work at our Gym the following week. She didn't get the job.

Fast forward to yesterday January 3rd. Had Super Sculpt class and the head trainer was teaching this class and the new employee that was hired full time showed up about 25 min into the class. Now I am not perfectly in shape yet but I expect my trainers to be in shape. This new hire couldn't even do some of the weight lifting exercises and cardio that we were doing she had to stop.

T#1 never stopped when she was teaching our classes. She would show us how to do something give us a beginner, intermediate and advanced moves. If there was an injury for someone she would give another modification.

I am sad and heartbroken that this instructor/trainer has left the building. If it comes down to salaries which may be the reason for hiring this new person - why isn't the company more concerned with our physical needs and what these trainers can offer us instead of the bottom line for money for them. We in the long run are the ones that will suffer!

Maybe you can find where she is going and join there. This is too bad.

I am sorry you lost your trainer! Good trainers are hard to find! I work in a 4 person office and there is not a chance we could have a gym or a trainer! Maybe this new person will turn out to be OK or be so bad they won't work out at all! Good luck!!!! emoticon
