Mid month ramblings...

I am off to a great week! It is amazing what watching portions and not eating candy for a few days will do to you!
I am happy to report that my jeans are no longer cutting off my circulation to the lower half of my body. They fit and feel great. No more Christmas (and let's be honest... the downward spiral started early November...) bloat!
I haven't really posted any New Year's resolutions or goals for 2011... I have decided that this year I would take it one month at a time. January, I am focusing on getting into a strength training routine. I am trying to teach myself to lift HEAVY weights with fewer reps (as opposed to lighter weights, doing a ton of reps during a class). It has really been quite a change for me. I have never really had to push myself to my limits when lifting weights.
Here is my current plan:
Sunday: Full body weight training. I have a little more time this day to do a few extra exercises and really push myself. An added plus: there is not many people in the Gym on Sunday Morning :)
Monday: Rest day. The girls have basketball and dance this day and I don't usually get home until 7:00.
Tuesday: Lower body strength training over my lunch hour.
Wednesday: Cardio! I have been taking a cardio circuit drill class the last few weeks. Spinning is also an option.
Thursday: Upper body strength training over lunch.
Friday: rest day. I can also use this as a make up day if I missed one of my lunch strength training sessions.
Saturday: Cardio! I have been taking a class called HEAT the past few Saturdays. I love this class!
I am following the fat loss plan on bodybuilding.com with some modifications. I may sneak a few extra cardio classes in during the week, but cardio is not my priority this month. Besides... my girls have already given me a guilt trip about how they liked it when I exercised in the morning so I could spend more time with them.
On a side note... I have got myself wrapped up in a weight loss competition with one of my co-workers. I am pretty sure I have no chance of winning - he is a male, 26 years old, single (as in he spends 1-2 hours a night at the gym) and has a lot more weight to lose than I do... but, When I look at my weight loss in the past, I have always made the most progress when my competitive juices were flowing. I am hoping his bad eating habits (he eats out a lot during the week), will at least slow him down.
Another side note: sorry i have been a missing spark friend the past few months... I really need to focus more at work and by the time I get home, I have no interest of getting on the computer :) I do sign in everyday and check my friend feed. I will try to be a little more active in the future.
Have a great week everyone! Keep plugging away at those goals!
