I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Saturday, January 22, 2011

First of all, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that came running to my side yesterday. I was completely overwhelmed with so much love, friendship and awesome advice. I met Sparkers for the first time that have such inspiring stories. What a blessing!

The strength I now feel from my friends did something this morning that even amazed myself. I did not run my 4 miles on the treadmill, I ran hardcore outside on the ic and snow packed streets while it was snowing with 14 degree temps. You CANNOT call that hardcore. Even my neighbors seriously think I am officially losing my mind. Perhaps I am LOL.

IT WAS AWESOME! I wore my new SpringHill XC pants and let me tell you...they are the bomb! I wore no base layers AT ALL and what a great feeling not having to carry all of that clothing around with me. LOVE. IT. Thank you JOEKUHL for telling me about them. Now I am just waiting for my Buff neck gaiter so I don't have that stupid scarf to deal with. I will get this streamlined yet!

So, yes the streets were ice but with my YakTrax I was able to run albiet slowly. If I felt my feet starting to slide I would simply slow down or walk. Its that easy. NO EXCUSES! NONE! NADA! I do have to admit that I am finding running in YakTrax is a little harder thatn without. Come february 27 though while I am running Princess with my beloved SkirtSports Lotta Breeze capris in the FLorida air I will see a huge difference with my endurance. This winter running toughens one up!

What is the point of this blog? I THINK I am coming back. As SANDIEGOJOHN told me this morning, my fire may be back. It may not be back as I don't see flames shooting from my hiney, but I certainly see flickers of a flame. Its a start. I hit rock bottom yesterday and what have I said all the time? Laurie needs to hit that bottom before resurfacing. Its how I roll.

What are your plans, Laurie? Well, I am glad you asked. I am taking it just ONE DAY AT A TIME. Each day I will have a plan and I will implement that plan with NO EXCUSES! You hear that, Renee? NO EXCUSES! I will have a fitness plan that will not be hours upon hours of working out cuz that does not work for me. I am going to join the SparkPeople 10 minute Fitness Challenge. The SP 28 day Bootcamp worked awesome and I will now try this one. baby steps with NO EXCUSES. I will get my water consumed ONE DAY AT A TIME. I will eat healthy ONE DAY AT A TIME. I will watch my Coors Light consumption ONE DAY AT A TIME. I will continue with my Princess HM training ONE DAY AT A TIME.
Most importantly, I will not place alot of pressure on myself and I will speak gently with myself ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Girl I call you HARD CORE - I can't think of running in temps like that. Thank goodness Florida doesn't usually get like that.

Can't wait to meet you - in just a few short weeks.

Hi Laurie, Glad to see that you are seeing the light. Keep doin' what you are doin'....a day at a time.

Yay! And can I borrow a little bit of that hardcore for my run today? The temperature is inching up, but I don't think it's going to get above 10. Luckily I have a lot of cold weather gear- although I don't get that cold when I run.

Wow Woman! I wish I could be a tiny bit of hardcore as you are!

I hear ya, girl! I'm not standing behind you - those flames are going to be shooting from your hiney again in no time! I can see the sparks & smell the smoke from here!

Good job setting those daily goals to build up your momentum again. And congrats on your run today! You've shamed...I mean inspired...me into running my 5 miles outside tomorrow. We're going to be a couple tough ladies by the end of this winter!

You do not know me, but we have some mutual friends, which is why I read both of your blogs and your sparkpage.
You do have a lot of support and I am glad you took advantage of it and let people know you needed some. Winter can be a rough time to get out and exercise. We don't have the snow and ice you were talking about in your blog today, but did have temps at 19 and with the windchill, it felt like 15. I have been experiencing some of the slump you mentioned in your other blog from time to time this past season. BUT, getting out there, even if only for a few miles, helps me change my outlook.
Congrats to you for getting out there today and for developing a plan. Baby steps is usually a great way to go when getting your momentum back in motion.
Wishing you only the best as you continue on your spark journey! emoticon emoticon emoticon

She said flames and hiney emoticon Every day we choose it. Mix it up if that helps you feel less like you are going through the motions. Way to get out on the ice. That is hard core! But some days, my wimpy self wants to go outside and run. But I need the Yak Trax first because you could be calling me Grace and not for a good reason! Way to go, Laurie! emoticon

I am so glad to see this post! I knew you wouldn't stay down for long. When you are at the bottom (or the percieved bottom) all you can do is start climbing. And there are LOTS and LOTS or people who are willing to offer you a hand to help you keep climbing when you don[t feel like you have the strength to continue clawing your way up.

BTW, I am going to be looking into some of those pants. I SO wanted to run outside today, but being my first real HMLR in a coupple weeks I didn't want to be 2 miles from home and have my knee start to hurt! So I settle on the TM for today. At least ONCE this week I WILL be going outside to run!
