T Minus 5 - First 5k on the WAY

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

Getting more and more anxious...butterflies don't even begin to describe it.

Me and hubby got into it pretty bad last week - and he WAS supposed to take me to the run so he and the kids could cheer me on at the finish...but...who knows now. Yes...I could think of a few words to describe such a *person*, but I'll spare ya. Trying to keep my head up - regardless of whether he *decides* to be there for me that day - and I will STILL go and run my best if he isn't. Drama, drama, drama...I know...

Trying to stay focused - sooo much crap involved in a run that I didn't realize. A friend of mine from another dept came up to my office (she just completed her first HM and has done this 5k before) and was so encouraging...trying to give me the run-down on what to expect. Figuring out what time to leave, etc - what time I should be parking...taking the shuttle to the start...picking up my bib, chip, taking a potty break prior to the run....you name it! It's great to have such positive people around.

Here's a link to the race...they say it's one of the most scenic in the country!

And...coolness - I work for Kaiser Permanente (for those that already knew that, pardon the broken record you hear right about now lol) - I guess they made these cool shirts we're gonna wear. I hear we'll also be getting a shirt of the race too...butterflies....butterfli

Too many to count.

I was on the site a bit ago...saw there's even in-freakin-strucions on how to apply your race timing tag...we're talking 8 steps here. As if I didn't have enough to worry about.

We'll see how this goes - my right knee's been grinding here and there moreso than ever (I can actually hear it sometimes - ick) and that can't be good. Haven't had it looked at - not painful - at least not now. Just want to preserve my shins and all as much as possible prior to the run. Again - I don't want to run *fast* - I just want to FINISH!

A few people here are thinking about that 3 day walk for a cure - Susan G. Komen. Heard of it ? You end up doing 60 miles in 3 days. BUT - you have to raise bookoo bucks so we shall see.

Here's info - they do it all over the country...anyone here gonna do it???

In other news...I did a really fun hike this past Saturday with some coworkers. 11 miles worth of hike to be exact - perfect weather - rain hit the bay the following day.

Here's a few pics from 1/29:

You can't really tell, but in the one where I'm holding something - it's actually THE most adorable little salamander we saw on the trail - hey, they say if you kiss a frog, he'll turn into a prince - figured maybe the same applies to salamanders... emoticon

OK - my brain is now hereby emptied of my pre-race anxiety. Thanks for listening...

I WILL make it!!! And if I have to be my own cheerleader, so be it!

Looks like a pretty hike on the 29th. You'll do just fine at the 5k. Sorry to hear that you and hubby have had words. Too bad it had to be now. Hang in there. Maybe your lusciousness has made him insecure. You just take care of yourself and ice that knee when it hurts. Best of luck you! I am fine. Other hip sucks, but won't be long...Apr 5th. Ice and snow passed thru. Stayed home today and will tomorrow. Bitter cold to follow. yipee! ltr gf, mary

Boo to hubby being a PITA. Want me to come out there and give him a good ol' North Carolina azz whooping? LOL I do hope he brings the kids out to cheer you on and that you two work things out.

There are a lot of little things to think about for race day. Don't let it stress you out. Make a list and check things off the night before/morning of before you leave home. If you get them the day before, attach your race bib to your shirt and timing chip to your shoe the night before. Lay all your gear out the night before.

And lucky you...I see you get a Dri-Release wicking t-shirt! I've yet to score a race shirt in 'technical' fabric.

How nice you got to hike on Saturday. What beautiful photos! I wish I had a hiking buddy. Tom would, but he has so many things around the house he always seems to want to do on Saturday, from yardwork to his woodworking hobby. I need to tell him that one weekend a month, we should go hiking.

ding you big emoticon emoticon emoticon

JEANIE! Girl, I am SO SO SO SO proud of you! I'm sorry to hear that hubby is being a butthead, but you know, unfortunately most men are at some point! ;) Then again, we all are.

ANYWAY, You're going to do so great. Don't be nervous! You will feel those feelings just rush away as soon as you get going. You hiked 11 miles, hello, 3.1 is going to feel like a piece of emoticon (that should be cake, btw).

Don't you worry your pretty little head. I'm your cheerleader, and you can hear me cheering all the way down the coast! emoticon

Go get 'em! :) What a beautiful run, too! Be careful of those knees, though, and don't push yourself too hard!

    GO JEANIE GO!!!!
