Working on Princess HM playlist and need your help

Saturday, February 05, 2011

I am now working on my Princess HM playlist for the actual race and decided to listen to mainly contemporary Christian songs during the race. For all of my running buddies that listen to contemporary Christian music, what songs do you have on your playlist? I am looking for songs that are upbeat and inspirational (duh, aren't they all inspirational LOL) and will help carry me through the last miles. I already have a treasure trove on my iTunes but ready to add more.

THANK YOU!

OH MAN LAURIE!!! I have sooooo many!! I have a couple playlists I title "Spirit" just for that purpose!! And a few fabulous secular tunes as well that are incredible spirit lifters!!!! Fav secular of late being FIREWORK, by Katy Perry (2010 Capital Records), EVERY runner needs that one on his/her playlist: (Just a few of the lyrics, ALL CAPS emphasis mine:) Let me know if it's not too late to share my Contemp Christian list (some of mine are dated but good)

    ...
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
Cause there's a SPARK in you

You just gotta ignite the light
    And let it shine
    Just own the night
    Like the Fourth of July

    Cause BABY you're a FIREWORK
Come on SHOW 'EM WHAT YOUR WORTH
Make 'em go "OH, OH, OH!"
As you shoot across the SKY-Y-Y..

    Baby you're a FIREWORK
Come on let your COLORS BURST
Make 'em go "OH, OH, OH!"
You're gunna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own

    BOOM BOOM BOOM....
    ----
...Like a LIGHTENING BOLT, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta IGNITE THE LIGHT
    And LET IT SHINE
    Just OWN the night
    Like the Fourth of July

    BABY YOU'RE A FIREWORK...

"just wanna say" by Isreal Houghton- I move so much faster when this comes on
"Victory" by Yolanda Adams- again you can run and claim the victory we have in Our Lord!
I can't wait to see your finished list. I ran the DPHM ln 2010 and I loved it!

Glad I came across this too as I need more/new tunes for my playlist as well, and there are some great suggestions here. I have a lot of NewsBoys in my list currently. I particularly like Stay Strong and One Shot from them, and Burn for You by Toby Mac. Best wishes on your half!

I was a Plumb fan way back in the day!! (Circa 1997) - Listed to the Plumb selftitled CD on repeat for hours. :)

Agree on the "Oh Happiness" David Crowder Band... maybe also Eastern Hymn, if I remember what it's called...

Ooh I'm glad I saw this blog... this is RIGHT up my alley :) I kind of adore Toby so I listen to a lot of his stuff while running, both for the beat & the lyrics. (There are references to running in there - maybe Christina will see him at the Country Music Half he runs every year with his wife, hehe!)

    "Feelin So Fly" - TobyMac
    "Ignition" - TobyMac
    "I'm For You" - TobyMac
    "The Slam" - TobyMac
    "Funky Jesus Music" - TobyMac
"Until The Whole World Hears" - Casting Crowns
"SMS Shine" - David Crowder Band
"Next Thing You Know" - Matthew West
"Light Up the Sky" - The Afters
"Today is the Day" - Lincoln Brewster
"Your Grace is Enough" - Matt Maher
"Lift Up Your Face" - Third Day
    "ShowStopper" - TobyMac
"This is the Stuff" - Francesca Battistelli
    "Born Again" - Newsboys
    "We Live" - Superchick
    "Changed Forever" - TobyMac

As for non-Christian-genre, Red Hot Chili Peppers "Give it Away" and "Can't Stop" are great for running. "Runnin With the Devil" Van Halen... "1901" Phoenix... I could go on and on. Love it.

I don't know if this counts, as they're not Christian artists, per se. I think they're Christians who are artists, but not overtly in that genre: Mumford and Sons-- "Little Lion Man" great running song, definite Biblical overtones. And "Sigh No More", again definitely Biblical, with an awesome driving build-up that is great to run to.

    Hope that helps!

I would have to say anything by MercyMe, Casting Crowns, Third Day, and if you are someone who enjoys old school Christian music there is always Petra and DCTalk....I have them on my playlist and let me tell you...I just put on my earphones and start walking and before I know it two or three miles have passed because I get caught in just me and God. Oh and I agree with Marty Chris Tomlin and Steven Curtis Chapman are awesome running mates as well....Good luck and prayers are with you as you train for the marathon.

I listen to toby mac's two most recent CD's as well as superchick. But my latest download is Thousand Foot Krutch. They are a little harder rock, and not something I would listen to while working, but while running the beat drives you forward and you can't help but move.

Superchick for sure. I downloaded one of their albums to my shuffle and it was great for my long training runs.

And one of my ultimate favs - which is my alarm in the morning is Oh Happiness by David Crowder Band. Can't help but have a pep in your step when that comes one.

You should look up Caleb Rowden. He's from my town--I've known his family for quite a while. He's made it onto the top charts for Christian Music!! He has two CD's--his first one was "Free From Ordinary" and his big hits on that was called "Send Me" and "Made". His newest CD is called Until Everyone is Free" --I haven't listened to this one as much. One of my fave songs of his is called "Falling" from his first CD but it's not fast tempo at all...but really beautiful!!

I am trying to build a Christian playlist as well.
The one I have to have is "Beautiful" by Mercy Me.
I love the original Selah and they have a rockin' "Power in the Blood."

    Other suggestions:
    His Love Endures Forever-Chris Tomlin
This is a Moment Made for Worshipping-Steven Curtis Chapman
Come Now is the Time to Worship-Phillips Craig and Dean

    Have a great 13.1!

I don't listen to Christian music as much as I used to :( but I still have a few faves. They are a bit older though and maybe not be too upbeat, but I still used to run to them.

Watermark - More Than You'll Ever Know (this is my fav!)
Third Day - I Have Always Loved You
Sonicflood - I Could Sing of Your Love Forever
Sanctus Real - Things Like You
Rich Mullins - If I Stand
Rachel Lampa - Live For You
Rachel Lampa - I'm All Yours
Paul Coleman Trio - Fill My Cup
    Joy Williams - Every Moment
    Sara Groves - Traveling Light
Francesca Battistelli - It's Your Life
FFH - You Drive, I'll Ride
DC Talk - Between You and Me
Chris Rice - The Other Side of the Radio
Caedmon's Call - Love is Different
    Caedmon's Call - There is a Reason
Avalon - Always Have, Always Will

Going through these songs made me remember how great they are!

Here are some that I've been liking lately

    Follow You - Chris Tomlin
    Hold On - TobyMac
Hold Us Together - Matt Maher (a lot of his other stuff is great too)
    Your Love - Brandon Heath
    All of Creation - MercyMe
Healing Begins - Tenth Avenue North
Song of Hope - Robbie Seay Band
Meet With Me - Ten Shekel Shirt
    Everything Falls - Fee
Light Up the Sky - The Afters
This is the Stuff - Francesa Battistelli
Children of God - Third Day

Disclaimer - I don't really look too much at beat/tempo as far as whether it's the right bpm or whatever for running... I just pick what makes me happy =)

Hmm... I have some Christian music on my iPod but I'm not sure if it's your style or not. I'll list some and you can check 'em out :).

The band Flyleaf is a Christian-based band so some of their music is very obviously Christian (All Around Me, Fully Alive, Beautiful Bride) while others just have good provoking lyrics (Set Apart This Dream, There For You). It's more rock but I love running to the songs that I listed. Some of the songs don't sound as religious as they really are -- if you check out the lyrics, you can tell though. These songs may not be your cup of tea, I'm not sure. They can sound a little hardcore but I remember many miles that these songs have pulled me through :). I will understand if these aren't the types of songs your looking for though! If I had to recommend ONE of their songs, All Around Me is probably the most obviously Christian and the most uplifting.

Or I have music by Group 1 Crew, another Christian bands. It's less alternative rock, and more pop or even hip hop. Songs like Love is a Beautiful Thing, Let it Roll, A Lot in Common, Can't Go On,

I also Bethany Dillon -- All I Need, Great Big Mystery, Exodus (Faithful)

Sorry, that's all I got when it comes to Christian music. Flyleaf might be a bit too hardcore for the most part (I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for in terms of type of music), but all of Group 1 Crew & Bethany Dillon's CD's are pretty religious and or upbeat so you should be able to find something that works for you!

Here are some of favorite songs (Christian & secular):

Switchfoot - I Dare You to Move
    Switchfoot - Meant to Live
Switchfoot - This is Your Life (a little slower tempo)
Switchfoot - You Already Take Me There
Billy Ray Cyrus - Somebody Said a Prayer
    Carole King - Beautiful
Celine Dion & Peabo Bryson - Beauty & the Beast
Florence & the Machine - Dog Days Are Over
    John Lennon - Imagine
    Leona Lewis - Happy

I've got a ton more, and BPM counter software if you're looking for a specific BPM range. Let me know!
