♫ Lemon Tree Very Pretty...but this fruit IS possible to eat!
This is my backyard lemon tree. The subject of my second citrus tree blog. These lovely lemons are sweet and juicy. I'm guessing that the variety is a hybrid, possibly Limoniera or Meyer since the fruit are pretty round and full.
My family members always ask if the lemons are ready when they pay a visit. These lemons make perfect lemonade, but the secret is making a sugar syrup instead of trying to make the sugar dissolve without the aid of some heat (Thank You Alton Brown for the syrup idea.) I not sure if splenda would make a good syrup, but you could probably use agave nectar since it is already in liquid form. But even if you use old fashioned cane, everything in moderation...this is worth it for me.
Here goes the recipe:
Perfect Lemonade
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar (can reduce to 3/4 cup)
1 cup water (for the simple syrup)
1 cup lemon juice
3 to 4 cups cold water (to dilute)
Method:
1 Make simple syrup by heating the sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar is dissolved completely.
2 While the sugar is dissolving juice enough lemons for one cup of juice (4 - 6 of the store-bought ones.)
3 Add the juice and the sugar water to a pitcher. Add 3 to 4 cups of cold water (I use filtered), more or less to the desired strength. Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes. If the lemonade is a little sweet for your taste, add a little more straight lemon juice to it.
That's it! Let me know how it came out.
