Contemplating Zumba

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Hi All,

I was really considering trying a different exercise. I walk 3 to 4 times a week and the other days, I use exercise tapes such as Shaun T HipHop abs and Donna Richards: Sweating in the Spirit and a few others. My dilemma is, I was seriously considering taking Zumba classes to add to my exercise routine, however, I stumbled upon a blog that was describing how when they started Zumba at home, they had to do it twice before they were able to complete the session. I'm usually never afraid to try new things, however, I'm starting to think maybe I should wait until I lose 20 pounds or so before I start. Anyone who is familiar with or have actually taken the classes your input would be greatly appreciated. emoticon

I've been doing Zumba for a few months now, and I still forget the moves sometimes, so don't worry about it. One of the women in my class lost 80 pounds doing Zumba. It's a fantastic workout and fun to boot.

So I had to come back and comment again. I am still doing Zumba at home and at the gym. I noted of course at the gym we are on hardwood, so we move easier, I made the move to the hardwood section of my home and the transition from one step to another was easier.
Zumba is a workout and just like any other workout it requires sticking to it. Dont' wait to lose weight to do it, I have a friend Trina that does it with me, my homegirl is 280 and she does better at it than me! She's my inspiration to stick with it and not give up. Please say you will try it. Please...

Don't let fear keep you from trying a class. If you use hip hop abs, you will probably enjoy Zumba.

Everyone is a beginner at the start. You don't have to go full out the first time that you take class. Just watch and follow and smile!!

Let us know when you go if you had fun! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Never be afraid to try any exercise. You may have to make some adjustments. Zumba is great exercise and I do it at home. I have to take it easy though due to back back surgery. But I won't give up. You don't have to lose weight to do it either. There are ladies in the zumba class where McKenzie dances that are extremely obese and they just do the best they can and loving it!!! I know my DD does zumba classes and the results are terrific!! What a difference it makes in the toning of your body.
Give it a try and let us know what you think. If you don't like it, you don't have to go back. Give it a chance though...maybe a couple of weeks or so...and blog about it. Best of luck to you.

Go for it! So what if you only make it through half the class first time out, that's better than not at all! I have a lot of friends doing it who seem to love it :)

Nope! Not hearing it, read your comment section, I had to tell you some more background on Zumba I don't want to be the reason you put it off. Man, I am in awe that you do Shaun T's hip hop abs, I have been avoiding that and look you are doing it. Please forgive me if I scared you off of Zumba, I truly didn't mean to. Now I feel awful...so sorry really. Guess I didn't convey that I am fiercely competitive and that I was doing Zumba on carpet which makes it alot harder to move, but I LOVE the workout truly I do.
