Backsliding, life, and recommitting

Friday, March 18, 2011

So I have gained most of my weight back. I even took my weight tracker off my page, because I am ashamed. I didn't work out this winter, hardly at all. The snow deterred me, even when it was worse for some of my sparkfriends. My husband and I have fought. Work has been hard. Shyanne had an emergency appendectomy on Monday. So now, it is almost Spring. I have more weight to lose, but I have faith I can do it. I'm going to work it off, and this time, I won't backslide. That is a promise I make to myself.

you know, i bet you're not alone. take me for example. i lost 54lbs almost 4 years ago which was 50% of my goal. it has taken me awhile to work my way back down but you know--what life happened. back to back illnesses, a knee injury, deaths in the family--you know--just life. at least you and i didn't use "life" as an excuse to abandon ALL of our healthy habits or we would probably be much worse off. like my sparkpage says, i had to do this withOUT developing latent homicidal tendencies or it simply wouldn't work. (or quite possibly land me in prison which frankly, wasn't an option.) emoticon

you and i can do this. ya know why--cuz WE ALREADY HAVE--that's why. dig THAT!

I think one of the worst feelings for me, is to FIND all those pounds I thought I had LOST. I too have had this problem over and over again during my life. The thought of it hits me like a hammer. It just doesn't make sense, does it??? When I think about how good I felt physically and emotionally, with the pounds gone, and there I go again... My closet had three sizes of clothing, and I was always afraid to get rid of them because I never knew when I might need that bigger size again. Duh!! I would feel like such a failure. Now I am on track again, and having discovered SP, I have high expectations that this time, I am going to lose it for good. The big clothes are going OUT. This time, I do it for MYSELF. Emotional eating is so hard to control. Try to find an outlet like brushing your teeth, or something. I get on SP when I get the urge to munch. Good luck, you can do it!!! emoticon

Don't feel ashamed. Everyone here struggles with their weight. I have faith in you, you can do it if you set your mind to it. And when your stressed, lean on your sparkfriends to lift you up.

I'm in a very similar situation. The winter has been very frustrating. I have no support with my family or friends and I have been giving up on my efforts. But I know that this is possible for both of us. Hang in there!

The worst thing we can do (I have gained back a lot due to emotional eating over the recent loss of several loved ones.) is to punish ourselves, give into shame, or anything similar. At least we have the tools to recorrect our course and do well again. You will do it. Just be kind and gentle with yourself.

Good job on recommitting. I did that-only I have never changed my weight tracker to any lower weight. But we are on the same journey.

Going backwards is sometimes exactly what it takes to make a commitment. This has happened to me in the past but now I'm going stronger than ever and you can too!!!

Try not to be ashamed. We do so much better when we accept our failures and learn from them, besides maybe it is not a failure but an option that didn't work for you.

Keep your head up, you're already well on your way to finding other options

Good job on recommitting yourself, sometimes we fall what is important is to know that you can get back up, dust off and start over. You are not alone, I have not stuck to anything while on spring break but hope to regain momentum when school starts back. emoticon
